Audax rides

I have my eye on it but it's a bit of a pain to get to from SE London without a car :/

I'm in SE1. Planning to ride over to Barons Court then jump on the tube

Does anyone have a GPX for the Lowestoft Ness Point - Point of Ardnamurchan route. You can't get it from the Audax site (maybe because it's a perm?). I doubt I'll ever get to do it but just fancy looking at it and dreaming... :)

Because there's no fixed route. You'd have to find someone who's done it (a few over on yacf have) and ask them for a copy. Can't find anything on Strava or via a quick google search.

I like the look of this, but logistically getting to / from it is a nightmare, regardless of where in the UK you are!

There is something about it that grabs me over most other rides (probably because I spent many happy years in Lowestoft as a child as my grandparents lived there). It is only about 30 miles from where I live now so that bit isn't a problem. Ardnamurchan though...

It reminds me of something my father did to celebrate his 50th birthday; he rode his 1950-something motorbike to Lowestoft-Cape Wrath-Ardnamurchan-Lizard Point in the week between Christmas and New Year, as they are the furthest points east, north, west and south on the British mainland.

Maybe I should do it by bike to celebrate my 50th.

There were a few references to a Cardinal Ride on yacf when I was searching for more info on the Lowestoft/Ardnamurchan route. It sounds mad - do it. :)

Knights Templar Compasses 100k for me on Saturday to try and get some mojo back.

After back to back rrtys with a month gap between them, I abandoned a third in September after riding 200k every weekend that month, I've barely touched my bike since.

I've entered Wye Wednesday and Chiltern Grit next month to try kick myself back into shape!

Ah, the Knights Templar Compasses could be my return to Audax. Do you plan on riding out ?

I'm going to drive as I'll be out at a gig the night before, I can offer a lift from Lewisham if you like?

Looking ahead to 2021....

some LEL details were released today on Facebook in terms of registration.

As promised, here is a little bit more news about entering LEL in 2021.

Entry for LEL2021 will be by ballot. There will be a two-period in January where you will be able to enter. We will then randomly select riders and groups of riders to offer a place to.

During this time some groups of people will be able to enter automatically:

• London Edinburgh London 2017 and Windsor Chester Windsor 2019 volunteers
• Audax UK or Audax Ireland members who were members on 12 September 2018, and remain members on 1 January 2021
• Anyone who has completed a Les Randonneurs Mondiaux validated event in each of the calendar years 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020
• Anyone who brings a spouse or immediate adult family relative (parent, child, sibling) to volunteer, both at London and another control, for at least three full days.

If you don’t already have a guaranteed slot, there are now only two ways to earn one. You can either volunteer at Windsor Chester Windsor on 1-2 June, or you can bring an adult family relative to volunteer for at least three days during the event.

We’ll also open for early entries in October this year. Just £100 deposit guarantees your place in 2021. Again, this will be by ballot.

Meanwhile, in other news we continue to prepare for 2021. Below is a photo from a route recce this weekend. If you know where this is, keep it to yourself!
