  • Have you trained to be good with sleep dep? Or just naturally gifted?

  • Just lucky I guess, no idea if you can train for it.

I've always been able to stay up as late as I want. As long as I go into an event without a sleep deficit then I'm ok. Going in tired is a bad idea.

I think I got about 8-10h of sleep on LEL and PBP.

  • Here's the route.

Looks nice. Years ago I did Roscoff to Brest round the coast (then looped back to Roscoff) on a tandem over a leisurely week. I found the far end of Finisterre quite entertaining, as things got a bit weird at times, in a good way.

  • Spend your entire 20's clubbing and not sleeping at the weekend's, has worked for me anyway.

  • How many Mitsubishis to get you through a 600? :)

  • Couple of Mitsu turbos jobs a good un. Would have to be a DIY though, or you would never leave the controls

  • You might never leave the start if it's in town...

  • Me and @ad441 came up with a great idea for an audax while on BCM.

It's going to be called the "Talbot spookfest russian roulette 600". Normal audax rules until 300km, then after that controls will be secretly dosing soups and baked potatoes etc with micro doses of LSD. We will be mixing and matching pairs of similar shoes outside the halls, chilli on the bidon mouth spouts.

Then, for the night stages we will be dressing as ghosts and jumping out on people, crossing the road up ahead of people. Also, the supplied .gpx will be designed to force crash garmins at unhelpul points. Sign posts giving you the wrong distance to end.

  • Sounds like a pretty normal 600

  • Hehe, I just wrote "All of this sounds like my normal audax" and then saw your reply.

  • "We were somewhere on the edge of Beddgelert when the drugs began to take hold..."

  • I got my disposable camera processed!

Almost at the top of Dartmoor shortly before the long descent into Plymouth.

    The sea at Roscoff

An estuary (called "aber" in this region) somewhere between Roscoff and Brest. I saw lots of these things during the ride. Suddenly you drop to sea level (literally!), see some boats, go across and have to go up a steep climb afterwards.

About to go across Brest's estuary.

  • An estuary (called "aber" in this region)

Same in Welshland. Aberystwyth is the "mouth of the river Ystwyth". Abertawe (Swansea), etc.

The seemingly endless trawl though Brest's industrial estate was a particular highlight of PBP.

    Good riding!

  • An estuary (called "aber" in this region) somewhere between Roscoff and Brest. I saw lots of these things during the ride.

I remember seeing a couple of French navy ships hidden away at the side of one of those. Looked a bit spooky.

  • Oh yes, I saw one too. Spooky as you say, especially at night fall in the middle of nowhere...

  • @Greenbank oh, mind blown!

Not sure if ironic re Brest's industrial estate...

  • Much irony, it was a particular low point for me after the great initial ride in to Brest over the Estuary.

  • Is anybody riding the kiddiminster killer this weekend ?

  • Around Weald Expedition today. 65"

Tell my knees I love them.

  • Where did you start?

  • One of my favourites. Very culinary options this ride.

  • Selsdon.
Turns out White Lane was hard in the 24".
Got round in 12hrs flat, with culinary delights such as fruit jellies, half a kilo of dried mixed fruit, falafel wraps, espresso and Amstels in Langton Green.
It was at this point I was majorly low. Pondered packing, but it was easier to follow the route sheet than find a train station.
Gonna ride it again with 62" in a few weeks. I reckon I could do another 100km in 9hrs (thinking GMC), but wanna see how I feel with the lower gear.
In other news, the co-op petrol station is an okay control for Swanley?

  • Wtf is that mudguard?

  • Me start in Selsdon as well. The hot chocolate machine was really nice after I had a Magnum from the newsagent in freezing January 2015.
