You have to stop to get into any saddle pack so it doesn't really matter what it is. I find my Revelate very quick to use (roll closure + clip each side) to say grab a jacket out of but a bit less so when you're scrounging around for something small. I now keep my smaller items up front.

I like the rackpack idea as it's in the middle rather than the side so won't catch the wind. My fixie is also my commuting bike so a rackpack would suit both purposes quite well. The thing I find with having a pannier is that I overload it, so rather than 2-3kg it ends up being more 5-6kg. Stuff I carry for my commute often ends up staying in there when I don't need it for an audax. Heavy d-lock for example.

I borrowed a 'fuel-tank' behind head tube snack holder but it's rectangular rather than curved and hence I bump into it when getting out of the saddle. Then it annoyingly twists off to the side. So I need a better one of those too.

Saddle packs are a pain in the arse, prone to swinging like a pendulum, then being off centre afterwards. Ideally you need to detach them, repack and re secure each time you remove something significant. Always have heaviest items nearest the seat post.
Big advantage of the Apidura is the cargo net on top which allows storage of often accessed items like waterproofs.
I wouldn't use a saddlebag if you have a carbon post either.

Do you need a second junction box?

You need 5-port if you have STI Di2 shifters, 3-port if you're only running TT shifters.

Or are you asking because you have a spare?

Fortunately I bought a 5 port junction box as part of the original set up.

My reputation for spares precedes me ;) - my new username methinks. No I'm planning on doing the same thing, not sure what junction box I have, knowing my luck the smaller one.

That was a hard 300. Really struggled especially in the second section with the headwinds. Fighting the dozies (perhaps beer before the ride wasn't such a good idea) and toothache nearly the whole ride. More than 18h as opposed to my usual 15-16h. Still, you're allowed up to 20h so all good and meant I had more riding hours in the sunshine. Slept in a field for a short while once it was warmer which did help a bit.

Have had a taste of the headwinds in the Fens now ready for the Flatlands 600 in September.

Turns out I like aerobars. This was my second ride with them and they made a difference going into the wind. With 350k done and 50k to go the extra positions were a relief too.

The TT shifters were more useful than I thought - great not to have to sit up and reach for the controls every time you get to a small hill.

I'm doing it - final shakedown before the Transcontinental, so will be carrying my luggage to see if any falls off.

I can't make SOH or Marcus's ride because of weddings so I'm doing Old Roads and Droves (around the lost village of Imber in the middle of a MOD firing range) on the 20th of August instead.

I've booked the 5:17 train from Paddington to Didcot (7:30pm rtn) - tickets are currently £25 return, cycle reservations are mandatory.
