They're all diesels, no-one can drop anybody. :)

Well done, sounds like a great ride!

  • my current upcoming dance card is looking something like this:

This thursday night into friday - ride to paris for the weekend
    Next weekend
    6/7 - http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/13-209/#more followed by
    7/7 - http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/13-800/
    following weekend:
friday night overnighter - http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/13-414/ or
    the buzzard 600 - http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/13-122/

then I think the next weekend is the DDynamo, which I may or may not ride out and back, if I ride it.

    then it's LEL.

    then it's life.

    Gulp

    top work lads

  • then it's life.

    Raid Pyrenees perchance?

  • Wondered how everyone who done the Pendle fare, I'm definitely going to put that in my calender next year, any route that have Hardknott in it is a win for me.

  • ^ not running next year

That's right, and had me wondering which audax would take over as the 'hardest' calendered event of 2014. Rumour has it that the same organiser is running a different event, which I'm assuming could well take the title.

  • Raid Pyrenees perchance?

... why have I never seem this before, this looks amazing!

  • ... whay have I never seem this before, this looks amazing!

There is a really good article in a fairly recent BQ that gives an excellent account of it.

  • Or buy me a pint and I'll bore you close to death with tales of both versions.

    You're in luck, Jan uploaded exactly that a while ago;

    Bicycle Quarterly Raid article

  • Look like you just save yourself a couple quid Yossarian.

  • Cheers Ed - I'll have a read

  • Or buy me a pint and I'll bore you close to death with tales of both versions.

When did you do this andy?

  • I rode the Randonnee version in 1996 and the Touristique version in 1999. The former was with Sporting Tours, the latter I organised for a group of friends.

  • I fancy doing the randonneur version, be interesting to see how a mountainous audax be like.

  • Goddamnit, it look amazing after watching this video, forumeanger Vesalius at the start cheerfully rambling on about something.

  • @2:20 - only time Ive ever seen that guy on the front of any group.
2:25 - return to your normal programming.

  • I got two more audax to go in order to get the SR (Super Randonneur), the 300 and 600 before the year is out.

Already entered a 600k which I'll start in a couple weeks, for the 300k I'm thinking of doing A Rough Diamond, look fun, any other suggestion?

  • Holy shite they make it sound horrible!

  • Just uploaded the route on ridewithgps to see the profile, jeez, here's me thinking it'll be fine as it's "only" 2500m.

2500m climbing in 300km is much flatter than your average 300km. A couple of big climbs make it easier as it makes the rest of the route flatter.

1000m per 100km is about 'average'.

It starts getting lumpy at 1300m per 100km (stuff like The Dean) and definitely hilly at 1500m/100km.

Most parts of this video I'm rambling/scratching my head/eating/drinking tea!!

This is a very fast route, ideally suited to those that want a good all-day ride, or those attempting their first 300.

Only three controls, but lots of places to stop if needed. Easy to navigate route with stunning views and scenery. Good quality controls all with hot/cold food & drink available.
    that does sound very enjoyable!

  • J, have you done the Super Randonneur series already?

I agree, but the last 40km is almost flat as a pancake, which is why I thought the 300k with 2500m should be fine (LDD have similar climb at 100k shorter).

  • J, have you done the Super Randonneur series already?

Yeah, I finished it with the BCM.

Although now after the pendle I can claim an AAA SR series
    (meridian hills 200,
    BCM 600 substitute for a 300
    Porkers 400
    Pendle 600)
