Given the state of rail services serving the north west, I'd drive.

This is a good point. I am glad I rarely have to get a train around here.

Have your seen the state of me after 600k/10,000m ? ;)

I think last time I did Ldn > Man Piccadilly, rode across to Victoria and got the train Manc > Clitheroe, about another 45mins / 1hr our of town.
Would be joining you but got an APN place and my route is likely to sample lots of the same roads, so I've decided to DNS the Pendle. I still need to put it to bed one day though.
I hope you're not staying in the B+B above a pub in Clitheroe I had last time, which had a full on rave in the bar complete with strobe lights on the Friday night. Didn't feel my best when I got to the depart

I've not booked anything for it yet. I just noticed it in my calendar and thought "hmm probs should organise something if I'm going to ride that"
Another option might be to "wild camp" in my car somewhere near the start.

I realised the Pendle attracted a slightly different breed of audaxer when I got chatting to a guy at the depart who'd slept rough under a bridge the night before.

I'm definitely not "too posh to pitch". I tend to favour hotels if I can arrange them as better sleep = more fun during the ride but if they're not practical I'm not too precious to sleep pretty much anywhere. :)

😂😂😂 man that is a great advertisement for the ride

There's 'some' parking at the start hall so sleeping in the car might be the easiest option.

There's also some random Travellodge or something by a motorway junction nearby if I remember right.
Though Travellodges seem to have gone up since I last booked one, they're not 30 quid any more.

In 2015 we stopped in a B&B pretty close by. Wouldn't recommend though. Unless you like being slow cooked by unturnoffable all night central heating.

I generally sleep in temps low enough to cause frostbite so that's good to know.

Anyone here doing Rutland Midnight Express this weekend?
-
• #12348
I think I'm going to try go for it of there are spaces left.
Did the Tour of Southern Shires 400 this weekend and definitely need to get in more night riding practice before PBP

I just signed up about an hour ago and it still looks open so go for it!

Signed up, see you there!
That could work I guess. I found this one:
Euston 4:30 PM (Friday) - Preston 6:39 PM (2 hr 9 min) then a 20mile ride to Clitheroe
Another option would be to drive up after work, which means I'd be free to powernap and drive back at my leisure, like I did after the Tan Hill 600k. Then again, if I'm anywhere near the 40hr limit, which I imagine I will be, that might get awkward.
