  • I'll let them know I won't be arriving in 20 mins.....no takers?

  • heading up to Paddington now, see you chaps.

  • I need to do a 200km this weekend, as i'm going to barcalona on tuesday.

Tomorrow's 300km route looks to be affected pretty badly by the weather, whereas doing the man of kent 200km perm doesn't look as bad (rain and wind with a bit of snow, rather than pretty much all snow)

This is what I'm currently thinking of doing :S shitty fecking weather!

  • Ride safe ed.

Is that for rrty or just because?

  • Definitely RRTY, march would make it month 8!

  • You must be fit as a butcher's dog!

Hope the snow doesn't stop you today Vesalius.

Hope ed's having fun out there, 300 in snow is probably not going to happen though?

  • Apparently 5 turned up to the start line and only 3 of them started it.

  • Machismo is a hell of a drug.

Thanks Skully :) The weather really wasn't bad out there this morning, but unfortunately my knee pain reared it's ugly head even earlier than the last time I did the ride, and I finished in a lot of pain last time so I really didn't want to push it...

Well, there goes the RRTY! Back to square one -.-

Got some decent pictures out there though.

  • My knee has been much better recently, when commuting, and even some fast periods.
But I get the impression that when I stick on my two sets of leggings in this cold weather, it helps to compress my kneecap against the femur, so that it rubs even more and gets inflamed quicker.
When I've been wearing loose trousers and cycling it's been okay..

  • Women's tights: great insulation without the bulk or restriction of leggings.

Got the tip from my Cousin, who's a Royal Marine in the Arctic warfare cadre.

  • ^Ha! Awesome, I will definitely look into that :)

here are a couple of snaps

The Man of Kent Pub, just after the start of the calendar event.

The castle in Tonbridge, whizzed past the first time I did this ride. This time I had a bit more time to spare :p

And a farmers field vanity shot, any idea what's growing?

  • DNS The Dean, bit annoyed with myself.

  • Better annoyed, than hospitalised.

  • In that field; probably apple.

  • Anyone up for a a perm, or DIY 200 next Friday as its the bank holiday?

I was considering riding out ino Kent to do the AAAMilne 100km, or might plan a DIY 200km out into Essex that I've had my eye on for a fast 200 from my front door?

    Any interest, or other suggestions?

P.S. He sounds like a machine!

  • Last time he was home on leave we went out for a ride: quite chuffed that I was staying in the saddle on hills, when he was having to stand up.

Until a couple of hours in and I realised he was riding fixed...

If the weather is any better than today, I'll be up for it.

  • Apparently 5 turned up to the start line and only 3 of them started it.

One of them DNFd early on, the other two finished (although one possibly just out of time but may still get validated).

  • the ride report from the late arriver sounds pretty horrible.

pretty ballsy/stupid attempting a ride like that with only 2 spare tubes on a day like that too. Especially given the fact that there is no chance of being rescued by an audacious samaritan.

  • If the weather is any better than today, I'll be up for it.

    forecast looks good actually.

got a route in mind Yossarian?

  • ^
I'm torn between two ideas at present, both of which will be heavily affected by my agreement to go for 'a few drinks' after work on Thursday...

    1) Ride a DIY 300km down south to Brighton, along the coast and back up to London.
    2) Ride out to Edenbridge, or wherever is the closest point and ride the Around Weald 200km perm then ride back.

I have just booked tickets to go down to the Alps for a long weekend in May (it was cheaper to get down to Grenoble than it was to get up to Scotland for an Audax I was planning) so I'm swaying towards the latter on the basis that it'll mean a lot of climbing and I can effectively ride out, complete the 200km then jump the train home if Its raining - with the first idea I effectively DNF the whole day if I jump on the train after 250km.

    anyone tempted?

  • I'm starting to get panicky about how little mileage I've done so far, and how bad the forecast is going forward into April.

So I'll be in for either/or.
