Yeah, but surely people have seen all the details about Covid and how entries are limited and there's wait lists and stuff. DNSing without telling the organiser is just a dick move.

Maybe lots of people who used to ride long or who've ideas of riding long but haven't really put in enough time on the bike while locked down to deal with the hard truths of a lumpy ride down south?

Is anyone doing wye wander on Saturday?

Rode the Dark Peak perm yesterday. Forecast was glorious and it seemed wise to test the legs with a few AAA points before the calendar version in a few weeks. To cut a long story short, my legs are garbage (or my gut is too much), but I made it round. Met a couple of riders on Holme Moss, including the organiser of the East Midlands Forests 200k. He was off riding the length of Derbyshire as a route check for a club charity ride.
Good to see the Bank View Cafe is still open. Sporting several vegan options these days too! The resurfaced Mortimer Road was a delight (the downhill bits anyway) and the run down Snake Pass quieter than I'd expected. Almost skipped the Penny Pot Cafe in Edale, but made a late u-turn and was rewarded by BOGOF veggie rolls as they were shutting up for the day.
The "final" climb up Mam Tor was awful. Despite a tailwind, the heat had taken too much out of me and stopped half way up before my heart exploded. The run back down to Marple had a few bonus gradients, in both directions. Feeling a bit tired I went a bit heavy on the brakes for some of these and probably need new pads in the rear now.
Computer recorded highs of 31c, not the best day to be riding in denim cut offs and a flannel shirt. Sense of humor failure trying to get back through Stockport and it's stupid inconsistent cycle signage and one-way systems. All I wanted to do was shower the layers of sunscreen and flies off me.
Back for the calendar version in a couple of weeks.

There's a full series! Staffs is a really good ride, Goyt is an absolute killer.
Reminds me I need to email Chris and Mike about the road closure above Kerridge.

That's a tough route, kudos!

I remember trying to convince my missus to do these one long weekend a few years ago.
Maybe I should try again. That cafe looks awesome.

Good read thanks. I loved this new bike strategy..
Once it was dialed, a went for a very fast solo ride, bonked after 40 miles, bought $28 worth of groceries and ate them all.

It reminds me of buying new running shoes back in Oz. Felt great so I spent my return train fare on drinks and ran 26k to the office instead of the 5k I'd planned. Then spent 5x cost of shoes on physio to repair the damage I did.

Alcoholic drinks?!

Nah, would be some Gatorade shit maybe. I doubt I'd be looking for a can of Woodstock when running.

I've done Wander Wye before but not this year. WCW (https://ridewithgps.com/trips/3194953
) has been on my list for a while. I'm trying to convince the missus to do an SR series before the season ends on top of her RRTY. I've got a 300, 400 and 600 off @frank9755 to try. Might also pinch the Kingston Wheelers 400k and compare with the LWL/Severn Across we did. -

I did it this year. It was hot hot hot! I had to stop for cold water ever 40km. The route is good and hilly throughout.

Windsor > Chester > Windsor
Yep, back in 2015. I think I have fond memories of it but maybe I've just blocked out all the bad bits. Route was good and remember feeling surprisingly strong at the end and my buddy and I racing back (thou we were probably going super slow) to his in Ricky afterwards.
Sounds like the rain hit you around Princetown then? Well done to all who finished it, it's been pretty shocking rainwise the last week.
