Almost certainly. He's been know to do mid-week night 200s and ride straight to work in the morning.
I did a 600 with him once up from MK to the Humber Bridge and back. He took me to the freakiest cafe I've ever seen, which was, he said, his favourite. They had Gollywogs for sale. Very odd. The customers looked like the occupants of Royston Vasey.

Well what were you going to do with all those rims you've brought age ago? turn them into earring and sell them in Brixton Villages?
All the MA2s are built or sold
:-(
Perfect rim for a randonneuse too.
I'd really like a 650b bike tho' might look a bit silly on a 60cm frame.

Doubtful, 650b with 42mm tyres and mudguard have a similar radius to says, a 700c with 28c tyres.
Mine have a 57cm ST and it look more of a 55cm.

^^I was using MA2s, were good rims, until one audax when a couple of spokes ripped up through the rim!

Anyone thinking of the Shaftesbury Spring rides on Sat 9th or Up the Uts on the 16th?
Contemplating either/both, and probably riding up there - company welcomed. (SE London, Leytonstone, Woodford, Epping ...)
Might be up for the Invicta Grimpeur on the 17th too - did the Forts and Ferries last weekend, extended it to 200, and found it bloody difficult with the cold and a headwind.

^^^^^Didn't he get 400-odd points a few years ago, knowing full well that because 300 of them were from permanents he wouldn't get the championship? Something like 14 SR series, and one or two midweek 200s every week on his way to 40000 km.
Lunatic.
And he seems to be asking questions in another place with a view to doing 200 miles a day. Every day. For a year.
Tommy Godwin's world endurance record in other words ...

There was a discussion about it on yacf and Steve was suggested as the person most likely of being capable of doing it (I'd suggest a few others). I don't think he's seriously planning on doing it and it would be very difficult to prove a record like that now, in this country at least.
IIRC, his unchampionship was, by his own admission, during a bit of a low moment. Mind you,I wouldn't advise close examination of the recent winners, it's a particularly weird rabbit hole likely to induce thoughts of buying a Pashley and never riding further than a nice little cafe round the corner and only when the weather isn't bad.

Just checked my calender, anyone doing the Dean on the 24th? hopefully the bike will be ready by then, really don't want to do a 300km on the Genesis...

• #1085
Alas I'm having to do it next weekend, such is the high price of being an organiser. Hoping the weather perks up a bit by then.
Obviously I'll see you at the start though.

For further tales of some exceptional audax endeavours, I encourage you to read this short thread from Steve Poulton: http://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=66807.0. Don't try that at home folk.

Might be up for the Invicta Grimpeur on the 17th too - .
I'll be at 'Beer Central' the White Rock in Underriver stamping cards :)

What will you be riding?
I'll be on a blue Orbit with white bars & saddle.
Yellow & orange Dave Yates with white muddies. Gimme a shout if you spot me somehow!

Skully, you just got namechecked chez Fix. It all started with some amazing Stilton.

^^^^What a hero haha
My knee pain is sticking around despite my bikefit and cleat adjustments, and advice on cycling technique.
I don't have the confidence to do 50km letalone 300km (the dean - the next ride i'm signed up for...)
Might have to visit my GP :/

Versalius - I'd speak to Michael Crebbin at Complete Physio if I were you, your GP will likely refer you to Physiotherapy though as it will be NHS you will inevitably have to wait, then will only get a limited number of sessions - also your GP will likely tell you to stop cycling, which is out of the question, so a private Physio may be a bit more proactive about getting you cycling!

This book is good loads of advice on treatment and symptoms and most importantly prevention exercises. To be honest you should be talking to your Doctor and a good Sports Physiotherapist.

Yeah what you say sounds sensible Joel, I understand that many GPs are not too clued up on musculoskeletal problems letalone cycling specific ones, and the physio referral wait times are likely to be slow...
The complete physio staff have some pretty impressive accolades! How much do they cost?
And thanks for the link FWN, trust me I do understand the difference between advice on the internet and a medical consultation (well I should hope so being a med student!)
But a problem shared is a problem halved all the same, especially with those who know how crap it is to be off the bike :/ -
• #1094
Maybe £60 for a visit? I can't remember.
Cost shouldn't be a factor when it comes to knee health. There must be other things you can not buy for a week to secure an appointment. -
• #1095
I know, I just don't want any nasty surprises, and their website didn't give much in the way of pricing.
-
• #1096
@mcrebbin - ask him (he's also on here as bluerip00 or similar)
I can also recommend Nichola at Six Physio who I've seen a couple of times since Michael moved location and became a hassle for me to get to. She's a cyclist and knows her stuff too. It was ~£70 for first appointment and then ~£60 for shorter follow ups.
-
• #1097
Will check them both out and consider booking an appointment, cheers :)

There's a line, on a me & cheese continuum, and All Blue Cheese is just past it. But thanks for thinking of me, weirdo.

Today rode a lovely 100 with East Anglian comrades. Thank Bob* for AUK organisers. And the weather turned peachy as we turned from the coast for the last 40km. Cashback.

Just to clarify, was this all on fixed gear? I know he rides fixed, but did he do it all fixed?
^^Jesus christ :')
I guess he cycled back after?
