That would be because they are split pins.

One end should look like the head of a pin the other like a screw head-ish. You may even have directional arrows on the inside of the links that show which direction to push the pins in/out..... If not then remove by pushing (carefull not to slip) the blunt end (pin head end) of the split pin and to replace push the pin head end into the link first.

Note: This is tricky and can result in personal injury.

Better still, take it to a qualified watch maker or at least a Timpsons as they have the correct tools and the knowledge, and then you wont damage your nice watch or stab yourself in the hand/head when you slip.
