Shamal, Vento & Zonda we're the shizzles back in the days.
Had some NOS Campagnolo Zondas on my first geared build 5 years ago. Frame was pretty pornworthy too. Now lol-ing at the size of the frame, the 20mm tires and the gearing i ran because it looked cool.

Shamals were, the others were lookalikes for paupers. They're still fast as long as there's no wind.

I wonder why the pros use 808s instead of shamals in track racing......

Who is using 808s on the track? Comete/Io or GTFO at the top level.
Also, track racing isn't zero yaw :-)

Comete/IO is only for sprint racing, omnium/6 day competitions still have loads of people riding 808s. Like "The Cav":
well track racing is as close as it gets to zero yaw..

6-Days isn't racing, it's a circus with billboards. Wheel choice isn't determined by what's fast, it's determined by what the rider is being paid to ride. Marginal gains don't matter when the result is decided before the riding starts.

Riding in straight line on the road with no cross component in the wind is closer.

Hmm, wonder who Cav's wheel sponsor is.

Imagine how high you'd have to tuck your pants into your socks to avoid getting chewed out by that top chainring!

Clearly it's for line painting @30mph. Government targets. Either that or Garmin mark 1.

I think you'll find it's a spittoon, for those touring holidays through the French Alps

y u no shamal? :(
I think your opinion is formed by the 2008-2012 Deep V fad. You've seen enough of them by now.
Shamals in their day were high performance wheels, the cutting edge. This makes them classic today, so sought after by collectors. Granted, it also helps they're shiny bits of kit!
I like them a lot personally. The hubs, the overal finish, the hidden nipple design etc make them really something to look at.
