so...why the sock?
-
• #91228
in case he gets blisters duh
His/her prosthetic foot will probs match his/her other foot. His/her shoe will also match his/her other shoe. He/she needs the sock to fill in the space that one would have if not wearing a sock (as the shoes are naturally too big to cater for the sock)

Totally nitpicking, but those shoes are Specialized Embers... which are women's shoes so...
-
• #91230
the sock may be used partly to save the shoe from the prosthetic
-
• #91231
Or maybe socks come in pairs... Someone post a pic of a nice bike.

If you look through the Flickr stream, you'll see that it contains a woman's foot.

I was actually thinking more about why bother with the shoe in the first place? I have seen a few amputees have cleats screwed or molded to a specific prosthetic. Is it personal choice or the rules of certain categories perhaps?

Only rules I could find re shoes (all be it a very brief search) stated that hand cyclists had to wear shoes. Guessing its personal preference then.

Cost might well come into it, a race leg is pretty expensive.

might be that he prefers the aesthetics of a shoe over a hoof appearing leg too

It's more of an issue for women, who often want different legs for fashion reasons in addition to their sports legs. Chaps generally wear trousers and flat shoes, making leg selection much simpler.

Hey, BC, have you considered tagging your pics on Flickr? :-)
The leg in question is attached to Liz Saul, bronze medallist in C2 Pursuit and C4/5 Pursuit at this week's international event.
