Yes I'm a bit exhausted seeing the sames brand new bikes in BP
Thomson, campy, integralter, archetype, oury, SLR, flight...
I, perhaps , go to converting me to astrology as new hobby or traditional blowpipe, who knows? -

read my palm like one of your french girls...

Gaston, good point. Campy is nice but it's not the only fruit. Like Campy others sold out and made some budget ranges but also made glorious state of the art components Suntour, Shimano, Zeus, Ofmega, Huret, Sachs ........ Where is it all? Where are the very early carbon rims on Hugi hubs? Etc etc

Oury?

Yes. That was just a few examples off the top of my head plus I'm new to all this so I know fuck all anyway.

well, i think that there are many people who only think about looks.
For exemple, i HATE to ride a road bike with Campagnolo gears. I really hate it. If i found campagnolo good looking? Yeah but i sure hate the way it works.
I'm going to start building a road bike. It has an italian steel frame. Does that mean that it MUST HAVE Campagnolo group? Sure hell no. -

Unfortunately they all imploded, killing people in the face
Campagnolo gears ... hate the way it works
All such arguments are just personal preference? Any properly adjusted decent setup will - or should - work perfectly well.

Fuck me that's a monster looking front ring! Nice bike.
For me for bikes I ride regularly or any distance Campag does not measure up to Shimano Dura Ace. First and foremost because most Shimano road stuff interchanges and pretty much any shop anywhere will have a bit that will at least keep you going. Try that with Campag (or for that matter SRAM in Spain and France - we tried to get a jockey wheel for my friends bike as we road through Spain and France last summer - only available OTC in the flash shops in the cities).
Edit - but on reflection shall we just stick with looking at some nice alternative bike porn for a while as the Campag (of which I have a lot) - V- the rest of the world argument will just start a very old and boring flame war? By all means post something about Campag being forged from the breath of God etc if you'd like to have the last word. I'm out.

this is just my personal preference. I'm not saying that it doesn't work. I'm only saying that i don't like the way the gear levers are.

Most of the top testers in those days had 57T, because that was the biggest ring Campag did. Bear in mind that freewheels only went down to 12T, and that was rare, more often top gear was 13T. 57/12 is actually a slightly lower gear than the 53/11 top gear found on loads of nodders' bikes.
-
• #83240
Yes - but how many of them actually ride that 53/11 and how often? Mine really only gets proper use caning things down hill. I could easily live without it (and on some of my bikes I do).
-
• #83241
They wouldn't be nodders if they changed down :-)
But, on a dragstrip TT course, if you get even a modest wind it's easy for the top riders to be sustaining 35mph+ for log periods, then 57/12 is a very reasonable 93rpm.

To spice up the discussion, classic Campy builds.

^^^ This is a perfect depiction of my problem with Speedvagen. Porn, porn, porn, anti.
Anyone that thinks bendy seat stays look good is beneath contempt. They're the downfall of so many otherwise pornworthy frames.

Not going to take sides in the Campag vs. Shimano debate raging, but after seeing that Speedvagen I feel compelled to say that anyone who has a custom made frame, and makes the conscious decision to put SRAM parts on it, must be an insufferable philistine.

why?
i prefer the look and the easy shifting system by sram and don't like the look of the shimano shifters and cranks, either standard or custom frame
-
• #83248
... shimano shifting is easier though innit.

What's so special about SRAM jockey wheels? it's not like the teeth have to engage with the chain properly, how different can they be?
