  • Maybe when it has a disc wheel

  • quoted for sexyness

  • Absolutely stunning

I've never liked Campag shifters for some irrational reason, and I just twigged why:

  • I've never liked Campag shifters for some irrational reason

I've never liked them for a rational reason; if I wanted to change gear with my thumb, I could just buy Shimano Sora.

  • yet another awful English

    ftfy

No criticism of Rob, but he has some shit customers. Apart from his own bikes, I can't remember seeing one where I knew what it was for.

Also a repost from 2 months ago

  • I'm more posting this for topicality.

  • Stays and gash union jack logo do it for me.

PS. il love blue whales. (Not all campag shifters have ball bag lining)

apart from that hipster commuter cockpit what's wrong with that yellow one?

  • Mostly that it's pointless, since an OTP piece of Chinese crabon would do the job for less.

  • Is cockpit one dildo like mass coming from stem? Joystick style?

  • Viewed from above, would look something like I__I

  • Couldn't that argument be levied at a lot of frames though?

Although I do largely agree with the types of commissions he gets. The Scott's BRP one is awesome thogh.

  • Couldn't that argument be levied at a lot of frames though?

Yes, there are very few custom built frames which are an improvement on an OTP. Main exception is touring bikes, where there is a dearth of good OTPs and a wide range of specific requirements, and also a legitimate desire for the durability/fixability which comes with steel more than with aluminium or carbon. If you're always riding within range of a lift home, though, the notion of getting your bike fixed on the road is ludicrous.

That's why I'm usually pretty scathing about NAHBS bikes. As a racer, if it's not the fastest bike the money could buy, I'm not interested. I know some people think custom steel bikes with paint jobs more expensive than a whole OTP frame are works of art, but they aren't, and the people who buy them are delusional :-)

  • ?:-) needs pompadour

  • ?...there are very few custom built frames which are an improvement on an OTP... the people who buy them are delusional :-)

My height means I am on the very limit of the OTP size range - I could probably get away with 64cm but I needed some justification for my bespoke build! However, as I found myself adding extras here and there and I watched the price ascend past the snow line and in to the clouds I can confirm that Tester is correct - we are delusional (although I wouldn't change a thing ;)

  • Ian Cammish, early 1980s. There was probably coverage in the comic as he was a big star and they used to cover domestic time trials; tell that to kids today and they won't believe you :-)

    Cheers!

  • paying for a bicycle frame that was made by 8 year old boys who work 16 hrs a day , is the price it is because 4 seperate companies make profit from it before selling it to me , all of whom really do care about me and my bike (the adverts convince me so) is so much more a wonderfull experience of being able to make eye contact with the guy who will be actually making the thing.
i especially enjoy being in a big shiny high street shop having some minimum wage teenage bollox pretend he cares about my cycling needs.
i guess im just wierd like that. i think i need to watch more television adverts.

  • paying for a bicycle frame that was made by 8 year old boys who work 16 hrs a day

Even though this is obvious bollocks, even if true the alternative would be that the 8 year old boys would be out of work and their 7 year old sisters would have to support the family with 18 hour shifts sewing T-shirts.

As laying up carbon is a higher skilled occupation than garment work, your concern for low wage workers would be better shown by buying bikes from China and clothes from your local tailor, rather than getting a local artisan to make a worse bike for more and then having to balance your books by clothing yourself from sweatshops.

Even better, buy both your bikes and your clothes from low-wage economies, as the extra demand will force up wages.

I see what you're saying and all, but are you seriously suggesting that it matters what you make in a sweatshop, or is it the age thing....or just trollin

  • I'm just saying that if you want to improve the lives of poor people, boycotting their labour is a funny way of showing it.

  • i may of exaggerated a bit , forgive me, but , you get my point. my bicycle is very personal to me, its nice to have witnessed its birth, so to speak.
the guys in the factory whom make those otp's take the smallest of many a slice of profit though. dont they ?
im not boycotting anyone. i own plenty of third world manufactured italian (or suchlike) branded cycling product.

  • I have run out of rep for tester. Agree with almost all the above and it's nice to hear someone actually say it and not give a shit
