One thing I haven't seen before on a bike, he had this scrapper on the rear wheel (in the last photo there) to dislodge any chips stuck in the tubs.
Lovely! (We used to call them tyre savers round my way. #oldman)

I'm guessing that must be one of his personal bikes
His Custom Superlight Road bike v2 race bike. He's now on v3 which is quoted as weighing in at 10.8lbs with the hillclimb wheels .. and I believe has been posted here already so no need for a repost

Is it generally accepted, touring people never cut their steerer excess?

"Is it generally accepted, touring people never cut their steerer excess?"
Huh, steerer excess... I don't understand???
-
• #79267
All those spacers above the stem
-
• #79268
Maybe they lift the bars 15mm for the winter.
-
• #79269
Flipping the stem would achieve that, without the need for yards of steerer poking out of the top of the stem
-
• #79270
Aha... So absolutely no point in "excess steerer" then, unless of course you're anticipating moving the fork to a bike with a longer head tube.
-
• #79271
you really don't understand this thread

I wouldn't have thought that was applicable to the Roberts.

not sure, but what I do know is Eamesy just got the bike and is in the process of putting miles/dialling in hence the excess. He will totally slam the stem lower and lower, then remove the rack, then mudguards, then next thing you know you will see him on rapha website.
fucking roadie. -
• #79274
Maybe he wants to be able to flip the stem and raise it, say if he were off on tour or such.
-
• #79275
It certainly deserves an explanation.
..sadomasochism in a nutshell
