I like how only when road cyclists get involved do the flaws of disc brakes get sorted. Mountainbikers are just all "I hit my head on a tree, it was rad".

I think most MTB'rs feck up long before their gear does. At least I do.
While over cooking things last year, I lost my bike for a good 5/10 minutes. Losing a single wheel? pfffffft.

Erm, also. The problems with disc-brakes were sorted by the MTB crowd a while back.

Specifically for MTB that is, road riding is an entirely different kettle of fish.
-
• #73806
Riding while cooking fish is irresponsible

The pro's and cons of disc brakes on road bikes was indeed well and truely put to bed by myself and a few other forumites. The general consensus was..
Meh..

The only differences I can see, is the speed and length of some road decents, will produce a lot more heat, and you might need less power.
Both of which are addressable by disc design. The brakes, in general, work great already.

Les Gets, Chamonix and Whistler all have downhill trails that last for about 30/40 mins. I think keeping a 35lb MTB going a reasonable speed constitutes more energy loss than scrubbing off speed of a 15lb road bike.

^ Cinelli's totally lush, but could never own one, would be waaay to scared of crashing such a lovely frame.
Whereas I'm loving the Marino and would have no qualms abusing it, it looks like it'd rather enjoy it. The rear 'non'dropouts are interesting to. If I had one in a 56cm TT and 57-58cm ST and I'd be a happy bunny!

I kinda like the Marino (especially the slammed stem) but did not like the fork, too overbuilt, look like it'll be harsh on your hand.

At the end of the day it's just a frame... bikes are meant to be ridden.

^ I like that.
Would you call it an mtb though?

• #73819
yeah

I would definitely ditch the Brooks on that, everything else like
[edit] although the front chainring is very small. What's the intended use, northshore? Very technical trails whatever he/she is riding
-
• #73821
I would ditch the bars, stem and seatpost and keep the Brooks.
And to make it a proper mtb it would need a bigger ring and a chain device.
-
• #73822
I'd just worry about getting the Brooks covered in mud on a regular basis
And I can't get my head around that gearing at all
-
• #73823
Can't stop looking at the mess of cables and hoses :-/

And I can't get my head around that gearing at all
What's to get? One chainring, 11 sprockets, simples.
