  • Very good find.

    Ritte are getting boring.

  • Ritte are getting boring.

Ritte were always boring, starting with their super-lame 'viral' marketing

  • ^This

  • Rönge

  • Article on material here

  • wtf is that head tube angle?

  • ^ was the first comment on Dezeen too

  • I love lug work but I really like the simplicity of this frame, the aesthetic detailing of the frame is now in the geometry, no ugly welding joints, pure, clean, simple. Adolf Loos - "Ornamentation is crime"

Yes but the geometry is shit. And in any case- what possible reason is there to invent a see through bike other than ornamentation? It is clearly a visual gimmick. The designer's motives are totally transparent.

  • ^ beat me too it

in the name of Modernism - Make something so simple that it wont work
(c.f. Corbusier and single glazing, Mies and the Statsgalerie etcetc.)

  • Article on material here

    Piece of fucking shit.

  • OK, the geo isn't right for your needs, think of how fast bikes could be fabricated out of a plastic and with the advent of 3D printing the eventual possibility of printing your bike with the right materials.

Will1984 - A transparent frame does bring an aesthetic, but you could hardly call it ornamentation.

Branwen - The practicality of single glazing didn't work, but look at the concepts modernists developed in curtain walling, have they not been adapted and improved for todays requirements?

Think potential rather then the first draft.

  • Piece of fucking shit.

    A measured response....

  • It is thought, it's unrideable, flex like a noodle and even more fragile than carbon.

It's just a concept that look good at your end of year show otherwise that's it.

  • Think potential rather then the first draft.

you should have waited until there were a proper looking development of the idea before posting then.
this thread isn't really about first drafts however much potential they might have.

This is a bike designed by someone who doesn't understand the design of bikes. This is one of my main annoyances with concepts like this, they come from what sounds like a 'great idea', but the designer hasn't taken the time to do the proper research into the area they're designing for, and the end result is just plain stupid to anyone who knows anything about bikes. Always ends up with unridable geometry, or removing all adjustability for a 'cleaner' look.

100% aesthetics 0% usability does not make good design.

  • Ed - we don't know about the flex or fragility, it's not the same plastic toys are made out of

Drøn - maybe your wright, this is the wrong thread

Fade - obviously the bike should be useable, and maybe it is not well though through in terms of geo, but again as with Ed the functionality of the material is unknown so making assumptions on performance (for me) it is pointless to disregard a new design.

    Concept Bike thread on route...

  • I said nothing about the material, what I meant was that the work done on the materials development side has been completely undermined by lack of thorough research into the geometry and other considerations. It can't be a piece of good design without thoroughly taking into consideration all the different aspects that go into design in that area.

  • Can't find any good photos but liked that build beside the shitty stem;

You are right and I conceed to this point.

Exactly, you can tell they don't understand how a bike works or even how it's put together - they've completely fudged the stem/steerer interface.
