94-96 ?
actually 80's just looked at the photos and it has a lot of c-record stuff on mixed with athena levers. Looks like a mixed rebuild with early 80's part on a mid 90's frame.

My understanding is that Colnago only made Master Olympic frames in 1993, following on from Fabio Casartelli's win in the 1992 Olympic road race on a Colnago frame. The IOC were quick to protect their brand and requested a change. The following year the brands were renamed Master Lights.

imho.,
94-95
'80's models had external cable guides on tt,
and the '96 master had thicker tubing and and lug cut outs on the seat tube
the chrome triangle on the seatstays appears on my '96
I thought coniflex used the masters in '89, a fella on velospace has one
I also thought the first masters were released circa '84-85, after the nuovo mexico/esa mexico era, which some quarters consider master precursors -

Yeah I know. I liked the first one, well, the frame anyway. But agree, it wasn't really pron.

All makes sense but in reality I won't have two different frames depending on if I think any steep hills are going to be wet or dry. The question is does a frame with a 15mm longer chain-stay length make may difference when actually riding it and not just talking about the theory?
I would just compensate by moving body position around (as I do already) and it is my expectation I wouldn't even notice after a few rides. It's easier to move your body forward to prevent tilting back than to move back to get more grip, just bend your arms.
Steering sensations are a bit shit though, you feel a bit disconnected from the front end. especially since I had 120mm travel forks, increasing the trail.
sorry for contributing to the derail -

but that frame is fuckin hawt

Physics to A level, engineering for the love of it.
The equation gives the eventual speed of a rocket in space (no gravity, no aerodynamics) for a given initial speed, structure mass, fuel mass and exhaust velocity. It is a form of the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsiolkovsky_rocket_equation. As such, I use it as punctuation when I use the expression "it's not rocket science"
Im doing physics a level too! :)

As you correctly surmise, you will easily be able to ride around the tiny difference. At the limit, you might not be able to, but we're nowhere near that limit when we change chainstay length from 390 to 405.
The external measurements matched, the material was different. That's like saying you precisely replicated 531 frame in aluminium and then found that it was a noodle (as indeed, Vitus did with their first generation aluminium frames)
