  • ^^ Good point.

I don't get it when people go on about making a build totally period correct... we left certain things in the past for a good reason!

Cyclists see fixed gear as a form of transport that is stuck in the past...

  • It is a very different means of cycling though.

Personally I tried it more than anything out of curiosity and just liked it.

Plus, as I was getting back into cycling because I'd really missed it, but also as my docs had recommended it to try and gain fitness, and fixed certainly helps with that!

Its the simplicity that I love and allows me to do some nice rides happily getting into my "flow", and has been a great way of relearning some skills and learning others that I never would have on a geared, but definitely improve my riding whatever bike I'm on.

But I am saving for another bike at the mo, and it will probably be a CX, mainly because of the brilliant versatility that a fixed doesn't have and for longer rides as me knees can only bear so much!

  • I love...nice rides...fixed
    same

  • Lol! Yeah, thats much better, cheers mate!

  • ^^^ you might even say it was zen.

Just catching up and there have been some epic posts, but IMO spending all that in a cross check is a little silly.

    Lovely.

    hate away:)

Got to just jump in on that ^ one, but the silly radial front wheel is the worst bit also a neg stem with risers is silly but ok, but why spend +£100 and not just get ones with less rise and less drop on the stem.

  • I disagree- big negative rise on the stem makes it look like the track bars have just been removed and the risers fitted.

  • Exactamundo.

  • ^^Fair point. But I still don't like big rises, fine on a Brompton, not on much else.

What's the problem with a radial 32h wheel?

...but why spend +£100 and not just get ones with less rise and less drop on the stem.

Because flat bars with sweep aren't common and jaguars are.

  • Still no excuse for the front wheel.

    ?

    Continue...

    WTF?!
Big risers are good on anything that needs a raised bar possition!
And lets face it, anything above a -5deg stem looks a bit crap really, so might as well make up the difference with appropriate use of riseers!

  • ^ sorry no convincing me on that one. We'll have to agree to differ.

(Size of the rise, not necessary the rise itself. I'm not militant on track frames never having risers. )

I'm not really sure what to say about 32h radial... if you think it looks good then there's probably not much I can say to convince you.

All the porn rolling around the Olympic velodrome today disagrees with this comment!

    ;-)

It'll build a lighter front wheel with matching rims. Unless a rider is particularly hard on gear, heavy or clumsy it's fine IME.

  • Can't see what the hub is, but DA 7600 loses it's warranty if laced radially.

  • Radially lacing a hub with that big a drill count is technically silly. It'll probably be fine. But it annoys me.

    /wheel nerd.

  • i'll never be convinced about high risers on road bikes either but maybe i'm too old school, i think a jaguar with a lowrise bar can look quite cool (sometimes!)

what bothers me more is more than a fist-full of seatpost on a lugged frame and frames designed for sprints with 23c clinchers just millimetres away from the down tube - why is that cool!?

  • what bothers me more is more than a fist-full of seatpost on a lugged frame

Apparently Japanese people generally have proportionally shorter legs than westerners. Thus a keirin frame can be otherwise sized perfectly but a western rider buying the frame second-hand will likely need more seatpost showing than the original keirin rider it was made for.

Doesn't excuse some of the craziness you see and all the frames that are clearly the wrong size for their new owners, but an extra inch of seatpost is pretty understandable.

    Exactamundo.

    ourys negate this

  • ourys complete the look

    I couldn't agree more!

hmm, not sure about that one - i just think keirin frames are smaller for smaller people and westerners like to have the magical njs for hipster points but struggle to find them in their size so just make do
don't get me wrong i like the quality of njs frames but it's news to me that keirin bikes are only for short legged people and not just short people

p.s i saw your bike yesterday - acceptable amount of rise on a jaguar stem! ;)

    Superbe Pro, I reckon.

    Lush.

  • That bike is HHSB anyway why the discussion???

  • so back to bikes again - i want some 953 in my life.
