you would have thought they'd have implemented a 'period correct ' stem set up for an 'anniversary' piece

It is period correct, that period being now

Nice, I've got the same Concorde frame and a Veloce groupo is on it's way! I acctually wanted some Shamal-ish wheels, but the one's on the pic also look very good :).

Well it's pretty far from being modern and if it's a special piece you would have thought they could have used some imagination.
The reason the stem looks so out of place is because it's a massive inelegant 1 1/8" style stem on a 1" headset and forks.
A much better move would have been to use a 1 1/8" headtube and commissioned a set of custom stems - there are plenty of nice boutique stems out there. I guess it just comes down to how much ITD you want to go into as a manufacturer.

^ Which you'd think someone like Colnago would have gone into that level of detail, especially to celebrate their own anniversary!
I think a quill is the only thing that would look properly in place on the frame.

Those Neil Pryde frames are really nice in the flesh. I thought they were a bit 'meh' when I saw pics, but in person they are really nicely designed and finished.

the unused cable hole spoils the finish though

yes, I prefer old schoolagreed, looks terrible. I have tried riding with a similarly set up cockpit and it is also extremely uncomfortable.

• #65523
I thought they were fine.
It'd be a bit of an issue if you have large hand and end up taking up the space on the shifter and the bar.

But Ed, your thoughts are generally in direct contravention to most other peoples. We are not discussing functionality but porn here, and it fails.
