the cranks on that BLB bike are actually fairly good. They're Andel, I believe. They may be cheap, but they're tough as a brick shit house and built like nails etc.
I think they come in fancy colours too.
-
• #6435
i have them in purple!
teehehe -
• #6436
The Andel cranks are good bits of kit - i have run a set daily for over a year, and they take a lot of abuse and are better than the Sugino messengers i have gone through before - i got mine in the U.S, not from BLB.
That BLB bike was at the Bike show - i found it highly amusing that BLB were selling Knog lights for about 25% more than Knog were selling them at their own stand 2 rows away - the Knog guys didnt find it so amusing!

I saw the OBAMA track bike today at trackstarnyc.
Alu frame, with rear disc wheel, with obama's sign on it
front aerospoke.
obama written all over the frame, and some smart slang too.
pics will be up soon, maybe it's not so porn.:)

Those rims are good for one thing only... going in straight lines. I've built a few of these up now and the depth of the sidewall combined with the low quality build/alloy, makes the sidewall ripple under tension. Especially on a radial laced wheel.
Oh and fail on the cranks too... non branded, cheap (£8) made in Taiwan crap-ness.
BLB are gonna make a lot of money on this one!
never one to argue with superior knowledge andy, but freya mentioned this very problem to me on sunday and apparently 1 in every bunch is just like that, she said, people seem to think they are rippling with the tensioning exactly as you said. I love that bike though, really lovely, steep price though.

how much is a 650c rim?
i just got a650 front wheel, but want one more for my friend.
-
• #6441
£49.99

We'll I've built 4 sets of wheels for people so far and everyone of them I've had to slacken off the tension to stop it rippling. And £50 for a rim is a bit steep for something that does not even have a welded joint or any nipple eyelets. Looks good. Is shit. in my book. And Deep V's are not great either. Now if you want a good rim, get your self a DT swiss or a Halo rim. When Halo release there no braking surface rim in all colors... much cheaper too!

Well really, now you have just gone too far! ;)
It's all about strength vs. weight, in my book.
Halo - 455g
Deep V - 520g
H Son - 580g
DT Swiss - 585gSo if the Halo (unfortunately only 16H or 24H) can hold their own against the others for strength, they seem pretty good value for money. May have to invest when my Deep V's reach their end.

she better not need it, because she is not going to get it. I wouldn't give it to her with a bag on her head, even if i had just served a long prison sentence. Fact.
