Gay = homosexual.

Saying that something that you think is bad, abnormal or you don't approve of is gay = you think homosexuals/homosexuality is bad, abnormal you don't approve etc.

You might not be scared of homosexuals but using the word gay as you did (and thinking it's anything other than pejorative) shows how ignorant you are.

FWIW, I don't like the gaily coloured spokes on that Cracknfail, but I think they would only have a queer connotation if they were pink or rainbow coloured. So they are gay, but not gay.

Also, writing 'ghay' or 'ghey' as a euph. for the pejorative use of 'gay' is totally ghaey.

Nobody can tell reliably whether a cadence variation of 10% affects biomechanical efficiency, so there is no call for a gear system with jumps smaller than that. CVT probably does make it easier to automate gear changing, for people too stupid to work out for themselves when they're slogging/spinning out.
