^^ which dura ace group is this?
-
• #60880
looks like 7300 (note the shim for the pedal threads).

After googling a bit on that it seems to be 7400. Don't know much of dura ace, so could be wrong.

I went for carbon tubs due to concerns about carbon clincher sidewall/braking surfaces overheating and spilling tyres.
On my cross bike with discs I'd go for clinchers 100%, and run them tubeless with Stans etc- no downside anymore.
Cross bike will have hydraulic brakes as of this weekend- Hope X2's.
Got a chance to check out the Hope X2s at the London Bike Show earlier this year and have a quick chat with the Hope guys.
Quite impressed to be fair, but still can't really see much point on a road bike, CX where the mud clogs up rim brakes, yes, but not most road bikes unless its serious downhills and fears about carbon rims.
Saying that, my current commuter hack runs Stans ZTR Crest rims tubeless and has this years Shimano XT hydraulic discs front and rear and the modulation and power are incredibly good, never had a single moment so far where I felt I was without power or not in total control and with the new brake pads that have incorporated heatsinks, brake fade is even less of an issue and the tubeless setup saves me about +300gms ftw!

Re: Road Discs
Colnago's wheel spec is 24 spokes f&r. Given the large contribution spokes make to aerodynamic drag, and the fact that road wheels with rim brakes work just fine with 16f/20r, the increased spoke count needed to deal with brake torque might well be the deal breaker for road racing.

The idea behind the discs wouldn't be to make a wheel change to go from road mode to cx mode easier would it?
-
• #60888
No; the C59Disc has tight road race clearances.

In regards to all them disc brakes on road bikes, surely it will never catch on as roadies are weight weenies. In addition the the weight of the actual brakes, it will prevent riders using all the light weight racing wheels they are accustomed to.

Or more simply - a solution looking for a problem
The only advantage that could potentially exist is in the wet where discs will work more effectively than rim brakes but even in wet conditions rim brakes are fine. Off road is different and there are a few problems that they resolve.

You're an absolute charmer aren't you.
Fair enough, slightly off topic with the disc brake chat. Oops. Other people seem interested and are chipping in though.
Obviously scorch is now going to conclude the discussion with some profound and enlightened statement about the virtues of discs on road bikes.
Thought not.
