They didn't. Well, not as such. They're 3D printed lugs, I don't know how strong they are though. Personally I'd have some structural tests done before building a bike like that.

Funny fad, they've been popular for more than 10 years now....
Only the spokes are thin enough* for the parallax caused by the flash not being concentric with the aperture to cast the shadow entirely outside the profile of the object casting the shadow.
*rear brake cable too, if you look closely
