SRAM RDs work better with a long loop - do want it to look nice or shift well?
How do you work out how much cable loop there should be?*
*in my case it would be for xt + DA bar ends.

SRAM RDs work better with a long loop...
I know this is true of newer deraileurs.
Can anyone explain why?

^ actually scrap that the derailleur cable is too long, shit bike
it's correct.
you want the housing coming in to the mech barrel straight on with a fairly relaxed bend for two reasons. 1- a tight bend could theoritically hinder the cable sliding easily, especially under high tension. 2 - on shimano mechs (not sure about sram) there's a B spring which sets how far the top pulley is from the cogs. A tight bend in the extremely stiff shifter housing could interfere pulling the mech away from the cog.
The angle on this deraileur barrel and other newer ones necessatiates a longer cable.
if you really want shorter housing you can try with these. I've never used one so i can't say. seems like unneeded complexity.

Alot of modern MTB mechs have a clever cable set-up.
To reduce snagging on trails...
..and nagging on forums perhaps. -

You can also run a tighter loop with segmented cable outers (nokons etc.)

What is it for?

I'd get all black tires if it were mine. and take the wheel logo stickers of so it looks plain. wouldn't say its ugly as sin. beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all.

Soon to be a fixed road bike. Riding it with no brakes isn't really my thing these days.

It's too big. The chainstays are too long. The tyres are good on a road bike but not for a brakeless fixed on the road. The tyres can't be used on the track, neither can the bars, or the gearing...
...and it got posted in the wrong thread.
It's ruined my afternoon.

Sorry about that!
It does look big in the photos. It's a lot nicer to look at and smaller in the flesh.

There is very little seatpost, or stem. Which makes me think it's too big for you.
