  • ^ but the pedals suggest that this is the Shimano Dura Ace EX or the even the AX, that has been painted and branded.

  • more money than brains rich person's ugly bike

    more politics of envy

Yes, the DA-AX and DA-EX had the offset spider too, I was just pointing out that it wasn't a unique design.

  • Repost but the article with Cavendish's tweaks is interesting

  • Had a dislike for Trek, but that look pretty awesome, right down to the carbon chainring, even if it doesn't last as long as a regular one.

  • Trek TTX frame: $2500
    Zipp Disc: $1500
    Walser bars: $700
    Mavic Io: $3500
    Front wheel in backwards: Priceless

It turns out the Tillquist thinks he has a FFWD 5T, although it still looks like the direction is wrong even for that wheel

Doesn't look like a FFWD 5T. The curve where the spoke joins the outer rim is way bigger and asymmetrical on the FFWD:

It's got to be an iO 5 surely?

Even looks like it has the mavic oval logo round the hub in the pic.

Yes, it's an Io, but he has based his wheel insertion on a: the mistaken belief that what he has is a FFWD* and b: one picture on the internet showing a FFWD inserted that way round**

**On an Argon 18 show bike, and given the shape of Argon 18 TT bikes I wouldn't take advice from them on aerodynamics

I too have a dislike for Trek, they are like the Ford Mondeo of bikes, perfectly functional but dull and safe.

However, when you take a Trek frameset and build it with decent stuff instead of the Bontrager shit they all come with you can end up with a nice bike.

  • ^^^ I used to know the guy who imports/imported (not sure if he still does) the Argon 18. Nice looking bikes, but as you say - a knowledge of aerodynamics kinda ruins it's lure.

  • ...car-cycle analogies are just more stupid then this:

  • ^ Trek rider!

    ^^^ love this.

  • I know it's a repost but new pics from spoons and well worth it:

  • Do I spot another rotor on the front? assuming to protect it from stray mallet?

  • seems so...

But why mechanic brakes when you have oil?

  • Because people think that a hydraulic would be too expensive to replace. The hoses would kink too easily and also you can't run a dual brake hydraulic as nobody's tried to make one.

Braided hoses don't kink easily, parts aren't massively expensive to replace and if I had the money then I would make a dual lever. I don't rate cable discs at all - I would prefer a set of v-brakes. New hydraulic brakes have bite adjustment so setting up front/rear bias would be quite easy.

  • Hydraulic would indeed make sense for polo as it is low friction and we need to drive two brakes with one lever. However, they are more expensive, and there isn't a dual hydraulic lever, heck there is only 1 proper polo lever (paul, 60quid) and 2 trike levers on the market so I doubt it's going to be any time soon.

  • i understand. But the matter of cost dont seems to be the big issue on that bike anyhow.

    Nice polo indeed.

  • Yes, but look how long people coped with home made dual levers. Many people still use home made/rik specials. As I said, I wouldn't be that difficult to make a dual lever. You're probably right that there probably isn't going to be a dual hyd lever as there isn't a demand for them.

Avid BB7's are £60 per caliper
Shimano Deore are £30 per caliper

Paul Levers are £60! £60 for a fucking brake lever!
Shimano SLX are £25 a lever.

The way I'm thinking you'd run 2 master cylinders alongside each other and a single lever. That's still only £50. You'd have to modify it but still it shouldn't be too difficult. On the other hald you could look into some motorbike trials brakes to see the size of the pistons to run a simple t-piece to split front/back.
