Thought that might be the answer. Why did Suntour go bust?

They had a small amount of market share and couldn't keep up with the rapid speed of innovation in bicycle componentry in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

I have a picture (in my mind) of a beautiful blue Daccordi that was riding next to me this morning. Mint 80s SLX 3/4 chromed rear triangle and fully chromed forks. Didn't see the componentry, but I'm sure it was period super record.

My dad had the same bike (in red), with a mixture of Super Record and Superbe Pro. Weird, but he says that the Suntour brakes were better.
