  • ^^^^^^ [that's @ max's post]

    The track one? True.

Haven't seen the other one before, and imo it's a better thought out and more tasteful build than the track one....

....even if it seems a bit odd spending/efforting for a conversion.

    EDIT: Whooa, refresh fail!

  • clear coat it after it's tarnished a bit ;)

    Hahaha!
Thanks for the props Mr. Swine.
The bikes I have posted in that thread are my single speed bikes keeping somewhat consistant with the LFGSS theme.

    Here are my other two:

  • ummmmm

  • Shins?

I was suggesting a method of stopping the green stains on your leg.

More info on this please. Looks awesome!

  • why do you put so much effort to make a conversion look like that?

Why would you put so much time/effort into making a track bike look like that?

    ...

    Don't understand the conversion hate..

Well i guess it's a bit like trying to make a Lada look like a Mustang... it's just not meant to be.

If your going to spend a load of money on building something, then why not start out with a solid platform, or just a frame that is actually worth something.

I myself have a conversion, but i only use the conversion as a winter beater.. No hate.. but i would never spend as much money on a conversion as i do on my track bikes.

  • Then, track bikes are, indeed, track bikes. But how many hipsters take them to where they belong?
I find my conversions just as fun and more comfortable to use than my 'real' fixed rides.

And a road frame can well be as nice as a proper track frame. As long as you don't remove any of the braze-ons i don't see the problem.

  • there's nothing wrong with using a road frame with a fixed gear drive-train on the road is there?

  • in some ways road frames are more suitable for fixed gear commuters or run-arounders.
I think the only practical reason id prefer track frames to road frames street riding wise is the peace of mind they give with the BB heights.

  • Even with my old touring frame with 170mm cranks I would have to lean approx 45deg before pedal strike. When are you ever going to be leaning that much when pissing about town?...

  • i use 172.5 cranks and get pedal strikes sometimes on my fixed roadie.
i guess the pedals are pretty chunky as well.

yeah youre right, its not really something I should worry about, doesnt happen often enough and even when it does its usually just a scratch rather than a real strike.
As I said to me its about the peace of mind, rather than the real danger.

  • anyways point is : good conversions deserve to be porn!

  • tranny porn maybe ^

  • i like that zero above, love to see it with some light low profile carbon rims.

It'd have to be a tubular as you loose the weight properties of carbon through the necessary lip (for clinchers). That or the fake carbon Shimano offerings like the ultegra or dura ace 7850 sl.

  • there's nothing wrong with using a road frame with a fixed gear drive-train on the road is there?

a la langster - basically a road frame with fixed dropout (the BB was low AFAIK).

  • the fake carbon Shimano offerings like the ultegra or dura ace 7850 sl.

7850SL have no carbon in them, 7850CL are hardly 'fake' since the rims are very light compared with an all aluminium clincher rim, lighter than most all carbon clinchers in fact. Best of both worlds
