As I'm running 27/14 on my SS, I can't criticise the idea of micro drive, but doing it with the granny ring of and XC chainset is certainly ugly. Needs different cranks and something like this:

Small to a certain degree, but not the ultra small sie that many of them are.

Just increases wear of chain & sprockets aswell as making chain tension adjustments fiddly.

Because BMX's originally had one piece cranks (because they are american) with chain rings all with tooth counts based on standard 16tooth freewheels.

When newer improved cranks were made, they stuck to the same chainring and freewheels.

It was only in the late 90's or therabouts, that this started to change. First with smaller screw on freewheels. Then eventually a cassette type system.

It has a low profile cantilever on the rear, the straddle cable is correctly aligned for that. The cable needs to be at roughly 90° to a line from the pivot to the cable clamp when the pad hits the rim, otherwise the rate becomes progressive and your brake modulation is all to fuck.

Pesonally I'd use black tyres, but I can overlook it as the rest is so lush.
