  • ^ now where **the fuck **do i get a shallow profile rims with 28 **fucking **holes in it???????

Black Mavic Open pros, I had some built last year...

    Loic

  • Shouldn't be hard to find Open Pro Black 28s, and if you want silver there is always the DT R1.1

  • @scorch
didn't you get some SUN rims?
    those are shallow, right?

  • wow guys all the help! cheers
@dutch cheese - cheers mate, only seen your msg now, and wheels went up to EUR200 alrealy
@veLLo and MT - yes, but they're black and it shows, which doesn't cut it for me :((
@hrrundel - yes i did, but they're like 25mm tall, which is not shallow at all unf...
    it's a fucking conspiracy

  • also, the DTs are like $100 per rim in my parts...

  • cheers all

  • Velocity Aerohead is only 19mm deep and available in silver 28h, Razor is 16mm deep and also in silver 28h.

  • i always skip "velocity" in my searches, might go back to that, cheers MT

  • i am thinking with such a low spoke count (28) you might wanna consider not so shallow rims
assuming you'll be doing city riding

  • i kinda thought 28 wasn't that few?.. i'm not even jumping those curbs at all :))

  • Given that people ride cyclocross on 16/20 spoke 24mm deep Shimano R500s, I don't think 28h Velocity Aeroheads are considered a low spoke count for road use, unless you weigh over 90kg.

  • i weigh 100kg :)) and we were discussing velocity razors, MT

  • @dutch cheese - cheers mate, only seen your msg now, and wheels went up to EUR200 already

No, the seller dreams of getting EUR 200.-, but actually there's only 1 bid (mine) of EUR 100,-
I was told by mail that I could have the wheels for EUR 150.-

  • geschikt voor tubes :'(

  • While the Razor is theoretically available, the Aerohead is going to be much easier to find in 28h just because it's a much more mainstream product. Starting from scratch, I wouldn't use either rim for anything, but you obviously have aesthetic considerations placed well above practical ones, and I'm assuming you already have some 28h hubs you're desperate to use on your project. I'm sure that even with the substantial compromises you're forcing on yourself and your weight you can get a serviceable set of wheels rolling under you, they just wouldn't be what I'd describe as the first choice.

  • all of the above is correct
    aeroheads are not on option
i am simply dumbfounded why such product is so hard to come by

  • These come in 28 hole.

    Ambrosio exalight.
    IRD Cadence.

  • the amplitude of the tension cycle, of the spokes on a low-profile, 28 spoke wheel, ridden by a 100 Kg rider, will be pretty large.

They will likely need a lot of retruing.

    I think.

  • geschikt voor tubes :'(

    What's wrong with tubulars?
We rode USSR tubulars in the 1980's (and from GDR, Czechoslovakia, maybe even Poland).
Okay, skidding is not recommended and they're not very maintenance friendly.

  • i am simply dumbfounded why such product is so hard to come by

It's not hard to explain - there is no good practical reason to have such a product. Mainstream race wheels are all factory built with much lower spoke counts, and general training wheels have to go on hubs which are almost exclusively made in 32h these days. The few boutique hubs made in other spoke counts are aimed at weight weenies who are likely to think any more than 24 spokes is a pointlessly large amount of steel to be dragging around, but they have carbon rims which have the stiffness to stay round at low spoke counts.

    IRD Cadence.

Ambrosio seem to have discontinued the Excellight, and stopped doing 28h Excellence too. Also not silver.

The IRD Cadence is a Kinlin XR240 aka Halo Aerorage, and is 24mm deep, and also not available in silver.

    Missed the silver request :(

Mentioned the IRD as that seems the easiest to source. If Scorch is in the US then Klinlin should be availible from places like Zencyclery and fairwheelcycles. They do a XR200 which is unsurprisingly 20mm deep, and bloody light. I bet it comes in 28 hole too (weight weenie rims), but I would'nt recommend it for a 100 Kg rider's, fixie skidder ;)

  • i shall have "633" tattoed somewhere, as it's a number of the bike-porn thread page, dedicated exclusively to me :))

  • scorch is in Ukraine, and neither is a "fixie skidder" - why would i be looking for a shallow profile rims then? :))

  • i shall have "633" tattoed somewhere, as it's a number of the bike-porn thread page, dedicated exclusively to my body weight, and unreasonable rim requests :))

    :)
