Because there will be no stand-out, never-seen-before technical innovation in Beijing, more a case of some 250 components that make up the bike, the suit and the helmet all making incremental gains and, collectively, delivering world-beating speed.
Of those 250 components, only the pedals, shoes, sprockets and chains have remained unaltered and that was because the SS did not believe that it could improve on them. Everything else is new and better than ever before.
For this reason, almost every single one of Boardman's 250 components will have been used, sparingly, before. Throughout the past two years, they have been utilised on bikes in different competitions, fed quietly into the system so that if the UCI kicks up a fuss in Beijing, Boardman will be able to reply: “But you didn't mind before.”

Actually, I just had a quick chop up in Potatoshop™ to have a look - and I think I actually quite like the purple disc, it's quite insane - normally I am no fan of disc wheels, but I make an exception here.

I used to have one of those, albeit in blue. Lovely bike, great geometry, but heavy as anything. At times (usually halfway up a nasty hill) I became convinced that it was made of solid metal bars, as opposed to hollow tubes.
The higher-end models were made with better tubing (501, I think) but I had the basic model - named 'School' - from 1974. I ended up selling it recently for around $400. It's French threaded (obviously), which can be a pain, but I just bought a Phil Wood bottom bracket and a set of their French cups and I was fine. Also, the seat-tube is a funny size (25.0), but I managed to find a Campy Aero one to fit.
Still, all in all, a really beautiful bike to look at and very responsive.
Sorry for all the (brackets).

Thought this was a nice balance of understated and flashy. Not completely sure about the stem though. Pretty all the same.
-
• #2938
the stem is alright, but not the downward-pointing saddle!
no, no, and furthermore, no. -

maybe that's why it's got a top tube pad?!?

what's going on with the right crank arm - is it drilled into his ankle or something?
-
• #2942
there is a chain going on between the handler bar and the front hub...WTF
-
• #2943
looks like there are straps round his ankles where the pedals should be. The handlebar chain thing - god only knows. Used to drive......something?
-
• #2944
I want it. But only for the handlebars. I have to find them.

seen that they're selling them at Ben's. That Bridgestone frame is lush, but even with the $ rate is a bit out of my league at $3K+++ I'd hate to be stung by customs on that one as well!

Yep, the pictures are from Ben's. The Bridgestone PHM9 would truly hurt going through customs !!

But why are ben's 'njs' frames so expensive? you can get a custom one from Ocean for far less. In a HHSB variety. And it only takes 5 weeks. And rene who sends them to you has the knowledge on beating customs.
Edit: pricing= £600 for fully custom frame.
