It does strike me that the recent obsession with tourers, dutch bikes, rohloffs, front racks and such like is a simple reaction against the fact that now a larger group of idiots are riding fixed gear bicycles (rather than a smaller group of idiots, say 2 years ago). These bikes seem to represent the opposite aesthetic to riding a lo-pro with a 12 inch saddle/bar drop. When the 'jonny come latelys' get onto the practical gimmick what will happen? What's next for the tastemakers, I'm feeling 90s MTBs?

Does it occur to you that for some people it's not all about trends, fashion, gimmicks and other peoples' taste? Personally I'm not 'reacting' to anything, except a private urge to go out and see some of the world on a bike.

That Crisp Titanium thing isn't what I thought it was. The thing I was drooling over at the Cycle Show was the Sabbath Time Piece. (Try to ignore the wheel graphics.) Hard to photograph - you don't see all the stealth fighterish angles and surfaces until you have a close look from every angle. The boss of Sabbath that he could get absolutely any design custom made because he's got the best ti welders in China. So I said I wanted a touring frame in the style of the Time Piece, which little doors in the frame so I could use it for storage. He said 'fine'. I didn't tell him I was broke.

cheers guys, yes that's mine, got it a few years ago from my dad. he got it back in early or mid 70's from a team mate, he was told it was a Mercian but when he contacted Mercian about it years later they told him it wasn't. we both tried finding out who the maker was but have had no luck, if anyone else thinks they can help it would be appreciated, although it's not all that important to me anymore, i just appreciate it for what it is. i should probably update pics in current projects, tho it's only the hubs and tyres that are different. i love this bike tho - super smooth!

No pics, but I went to this guy's house recently in Kidderminster to pick up some bits, and he showed me his absolutely outrageous carbon Orbea TT bike with full carbon Super Record groupset and these carbon tri-spoke wheels he kept in a separate bag. Pure function, weighed fuck-all too.

He also had some really interesting lights, locally made, really powerful and light, in a hand machined alu body, pure light porn, cost about £400 for a set, which is good compared to Lupine kit and 100 times sexier.
