Well I'm not sure that most lugs are. But yeah the hand cut ones do start with pre-made ones.
I'm also impressed with the way he's used the shape to the max. The OTP lug doesn't look big enough to me to create that pattern. Seriously good work!

Bent seatposts, why?.Is there some reason for it?.
-
• #21658
Layback isn't it? The straight thomson one is literally straight, unlike other seatpost that are straight but with a layback right at the clamp.

Seatstays & Chainstays.Looks like it's been made of scrap leftovers.Or the "acid kicked" in when the builder got to that stage.

They talk funny and work in factories. Therefore, in the north innit
I always imagined though, that everyone who works at Mercian has a beard, smokes a pipe and rambles on about period correct components all day.... Alas, Marlboro Lights, The Sun and topless ladies on motorbikes seems to be the reality.
Have you ever worked in a factory or on a production line? It's the same the world over, stop being a cock.

Such a nice bike. Have been thinking about building somthing like that but always worry that the chains going to be continously coming off. I suppose this bike proves me wrong as it desnt look like a thrown together job. Do you think youd have to use spercific chainset/derailleur/freewheel to make this work?

This is a little different, but from the other pics the guy has totally decked it out in period xtr, ringle, use etc. parts. I'm not sure but I think the forks were team issue jobs?
Thats the rest of the post
most if not all lugs are cut from a basic design thats bought in
its the man hours that go into shaping, cutting and polishing lugs that makes them stand out
