he is the absolute king of combining the old and the new.
He's got classic city bikes that have disc brakes and belt drives with 8 speed rholllfferereressss... and you hardly even notice. Take for example that bottom bike. Disc brakes, right?

True. If you need to use a contraction for the country word, Nip is better as it respects their culture and language by using a closer approximation to the name they themselves use for their nation.
Also, using JAP in connection with motor paced events is confusing, because it wouldn't really be Keirin if you were behind one of these
i understand where you're coming from, but cultural sensitivity can sometimes end up so squeamish about offending a People that you end up treating them with kid gloves, which denies them the right to have the piss taken a bit. ps no offence mitre tester, i love your posts, they're blimmin informative! in my case, jap wasn't even meant as a cultural shortand, merely an abbreviation of japanese, the word.

You misunderstand, perhaps. Conventionally, calling a Japanese person a Nip is considered more offensive than calling them a Jap; by making a rational, culturally aware, case for Nip, I was attempting to point out the absurdity of political correctness police attempting to speak on behalf of those with alien ethnicities.
Gaijin like us should not presume to guess which term is likely to be found more offensive to the natives of Nippon-koku, we should attempt as a matter of politeness to find out, from them, how we should refer to them in conversation.

ok, i'll ask my japanese flatmate what he thinks: he says 'fuck off, i sleep" . maybe he said "asleep" but it's hard to tell. but basically, i think it's ok to call japanese people by rude names; they seem to me to be human beings like you and me.

• #20739
yeah!! i've just woken up my tame jap flatmate. he says you can call him and his countrymen and women japs and he won't be offended.

when talking about themselves.. Nihon-jin 日本人 is used "Nihon-jin desu".. "Im Japanese". So using the arguement of shortenings on their behalf is rather pointless, they dont do it. As neither Nip/Jap are used in Japan, I dont see how either can be found offensive.
Heck, we are called Gaijin, which means foreign person... which is hardly that nice
The Nip/Jap, and our collective guilt at using them, comes, i feel, at how they are used in war movies, and any negative racial use ended 60years ago.
Chink on the other hand, IS offensive
you're right, the colour wasn't very good in the video and mistook the lime one as bright yellow.
