what about it looks wrong?
I dunno really.I can't remember the black headset ,seat post, tyres being like that. How many bikes did Eddy attempt it on.My old employer was there as a friend/guest at the event and the signed photo's he pinned up on his workshop wall had looked different to this bike. That's all.Mind you i'm going back to 1976 when i looked at those .I won't bother searching.it's straight off of the "top of me nod like",a fading memory i think. So please correct me if i'm wrong.

As pointed out already, it is the definitive and ultimate track bike. It's Eddy Merck's hour record bike. It cannot be wrong, only every other bike can be wrong.
Mind you,I would'nt mind any track bike previously owned by the mighty Patrick Sercu.

There were supposedly a few bikes available for Merckx on the day.
It's believed that the bike in the glass box in the Brussels Metro station is not the one he actually road.
I'd be happy with any of them.

Thankyou for the info and picture. Is'nt that a magic picture. When Boardman finally "smashed" the hour on a proper track bike.It did'nt seem to have the same impact for me. -

They probably couldn't wait to yank off those Windsor decals.

I thought for the UCI Record you had to use a steel bike, that is made of carbonfibre tubing.
It doesn't specify material, it just has to be round cross section and not less than 25mm diameter on the main tubes
