Can we stop talking about the snow bike? It's a snow bike. We get it. It's meant for survivors and real men. moving on.

You are a moron. That bike is pure function.
Go ride one of the iditabike challanges then come back with an eductated opinion.
Get fucked! There are bikes designed for all types of purposes. Does not mean I think they're all beautiful. This is a fixed wheel and single speed forum, so people will naturally lean towards these designs anyway. I don't see what your problem is.

ed its a beautiful set up, huh?
That bike was on Ebay for 1200 USD with the cinelli stem and Arc bars. I was seconds from buying it, and i stood up, took a deep breath, and walked into the pantry. I then ran back to buy it and someone had snatched it. it was up for about 3 minutes. Bike is easily worth over 3000 USD. That frame and fork are 2300 USD.

You're obviously entitled to your opinion based on looks....but you can't get a bike that has been developed more for it's function first than that one.
Mike has worked with moots for years to build the best bike for the purpose...the cassette on the front is no gimmick...it's because if you're stranded in Alaska in -35 temps cos your wheel has locked solid...you'd appreciate the ability to swap to the 'spare' rear wheel too.
The rims and tyres are designed that way to stop you sinking in deep snow...and yes they do work.
Mike even went as far as to have all the breather holes on the frame and forks filled, and gas valves fitted to both fork legs and the frame so that he could store the fuel for his stove inside the frame and fork legs to free up space on the rest of the bike...gimmicky no....functional yes. -

Mike Curiaks custom Moots snow bike. I love the fact that the snow camo is actually made from lots of moots logos. Mike is a fookin legend!
I have to say scot, I am one of these mountain bikers who just doesn't get these at all. Then again I did most of my mountain biking on skinny tyred XC bikes with no suspension. Probably a nice bit of kit, just it is a bit OTT for riding about the local heath.

Again, because as you say...you've never had to cross 300+ miles of deep snow.
I used mine for pure xc too in scotland and it was my favourite bike by far...and i've ridden a LOT of different MTB's. :)

But you didn't just comment on the aesthetics, you attempted to claim that the front cassette was gimmicky which it clearly isn't otherwise the guy who specified that build wouldn't have asked for it. All of his bikes have been about utility first as he has them built for very specific and demanding challenges. -

Not meaning to upset anyone but that MOOTS snow thing looks utter garbage

Not meaning to upset you but I've seen your taste in bikes so will be discounting your opinion.

i've ridden a pugsley round bristol bikefest course last year, the steering feels sooo wierd but you can ride over anything and you get about 3" of travel just from the tyres, lots and lots of fun which is what it's all about, they don't however make you invincible EVEN if they make you feel that way

• #15946
is it bad to want these?

yes

This guy also understands just how far from Gimmicky those big wheels are...
He cycled the canning stock route unsupported on his Surly Pugsley...read about it and educate yourselves a bit that not everything that looks different from a track bike is a gimmick!

• #15949
brakes are gimmicks!
but seriously the bike is function over form .'. it looks a bit shit
