  • I love risers on bikes like this, yeah they are all 'not right' and all that, but they look nice.

Anyone who says different is a racist.

yeah i know, but its such a puppy killing...I mean i don't mind the carbon crap new stock...but when people start doing up extremly rare NOS track components and then kill them off on the road by riding with risers just to get street cred fucking pisses me off.

I can just imagine some 60 year old bike/frame builder looking for these components to finish off his exquisite italian bike, only to find out that the last one's in the world have been bought out by some fucking hipsters and they are just using them as a fucking bling accessory.

No rider who is serious about cycling will use genuine track parts with risers. fucking fail in my book.

  • No rider who is serious about cycling will use risers

    fixed

  • I want to punch every fucker who puts discs, aero forks, aero wheels and expensive track frames/components to then run with risers.

    You all fucking hipster cunts.
and no this bikes is nowhere near the porn line, whats with the fucking clearance on the forks...he's got enough money for a zipp disc but not enough to buy some forks that actually fit the wheel....ffs

ahh it's not that bad, plus the BB would be even lower if he replace the original fork with a 650c one.

  • No rider who is serious about cycling will use genuine track parts with risers. fucking fail in my book.

yeah, it's a lots more comfortable to use a narrow track bar for a 10 miles journery(!)

  • i think risers are really practical in the city.

Most people on this forum are running parts that are beyond their needs and it's easy to be too precious about old shit. imagine how much all this stuff has gone up in value since the fixed gear fad came to be.

about the fork clearance: if he/she put a correctly fitting fork on with that wheel then they would no longer be able to barspin, which is the primary reason for such a setup. like it or lump it (not my bag btw).

  • fixed

true, but many people have MTB's and polo bikes too.

  • yeah, it's a lots more comfortable to use a narrow track bar for a 10 miles journery(!)

No, it's more comfortable to use a road bar with bar tape not a fucking riser bar, not a fucking untaped 36cm Nitto not a set of Spinnaci bars or anything else currently rating on the hipster radar.

Blue nittos and risers might float your aesthetic boat but it certainly doesn't make them the best choice for cycling. Doing bar spins and shit then by all means, choose risers.

Don't get upset when some of us laugh at you though.

  • i think it's all down to geometry, there's not much point spending money on disc wheels and carbon tri/four spokes if all those aerodynamics are killed off by the rider sitting up riding risers.
There's no other reason for it but for show and looks.

As hippy said above, by all means go for it, but don't get upset when we laugh at you.

    Generally I agree with you

barspinning a pista concept with a rare 650, 16 spoke wheel is the stupidest thing I have heard all day. Such a lame excuse 'to have a 650 wheel' if your spending all that money spend it on some 48h goldtechs and buy a gangsta track or plug and have a 'trick setup'

then again whose to say they are less worthy than the 60 year old completing his build? maybe they ride their bikes all day and love them to pieces.

Can you quantifyably decide who deserves parts more or who loves their bikes more?

If they like the way their bikes look and ride then who are we to tell them otherwise?

whats wrong with buying things because they look good?

  • yeah, it's a lots more comfortable to use a narrow track bar for a 10 miles journery(!)

rubbish mate! I have rsi in both wrists and keeping them in one position for prolonged periods of time (anything longer than like 10 minutes) makes em ache.

Its probably more comfortable to ride an upright bike with wide bars, upright stem and comfy saddle

  • I've just added a £4 mtb riser stem for an even more upright position (on my Fuji Track fixed-about-town bike). It's ok to laugh... I laugh... at how easy it is to pop over pot-holes & curbs now.

My commute on this bike is 25mins, all urban. No use for drops on that ride.

    ;-)

mate, does this - (!) ring a bell?

  • Anyone who complains about people who complain about people with risers matched to race kit are racists.

Any foreigners from Australia who come over here and take our jobs and our women are racists.

  • yeah i know, but its such a puppy killing...I mean i don't mind the carbon crap new stock...but when people start doing up extremly rare NOS track components and then kill them off on the road by riding with risers just to get street cred fucking pisses me off.

The person putting the bike together could simply love the look of it, it does not necessarily follow that they want to 'get street cred'.

I can just imagine some 60 year old bike/frame builder looking for these components to finish off his exquisite italian bike, only to find out that the last one's in the world have been bought out by some fucking hipsters and they are just using them as a fucking bling accessory.

What you are doing is setting up two hilariously bad characters (fucking hipsters v 60 year old bike/frame builder working on his exquisite Italian bike) and attempting to give your argument credibility by aligning the better of the two characters with your own views.

Why not go the whole way and make the 60 year old bike/frame builder a wise and decent man who has lead a humble life dedicated to helping the poor - while the pissy little hipster steals bags off old women so he can buy porn mags to wank to in the flat his daddy (who is on the board at RBS) pays for.

That'll prove that it's wrong to put NOS parts on new bikes. :P

The only decent point you made in that fantasy plot was "I can just imagine".

No rider who is serious about cycling will use genuine track parts with risers. fucking fail in my book.

You haven't really given a good (or any) reason why. I expect you are just like me and (probably) like the bloke who built the bike - and it is really just a matter of differing tastes on what we find visually pleasing.

    And you are still racist.

    Risers !

    Risers !

    Risers !

    Risers !

    We will rule the earth.

  • mate, does this - (!) ring a bell?

    :D

Can I get a 'Hell Yeah!"

  • Anyone who rides drops in city traffic is limiting their ability to see traffic flows and errant peds
I wouldn't know a hipster if one bit me on the arse
but I do have twenty five years of playing in traffic
including eight years as a courier to back up this statement

  • hell yeah!

  • very tight!

    might be reee.

  • Does it not boil down to what is comfortable for the individual?
"One man's meat is another mans poison" and all that philosophic crap.
I kit out my bikes so that they are nice to ride, stuff what they look like.

Or am I missing the point.

    TP

how so? If in city traffic I tend to ride on the hoods so its not like I'm on the bottom of the drops with my head down sprinting (in which case my view would be distorted). I can see and stop just as well as if I'm on risers but I have a more versatile bike (more suitable for long distances etc...). Granted I can't do bar spins unless I flip the bars but why would I want to?

oh and I have a 126 years of disco dancing to back up this statement.

btw I'm not dissing risers. I don't care what you/anyone rides. Personally I think risers on road/track bikes look silly but ride what works best for you.

  • also is biting ppl on the arse what hipsters do now? I find it so hard to keep up with whats hot and whats not. If only SugaR ape was a real magazine.

    fashion police - baaahhhh baaarrryy

  • To be honest I wouldn't even notice someone laughing at me. I am too busy watching the traffic.

    T.... P.p

So you'd like to punch me then?
