Listened to a lot of Brand New today, not really sure why, but I'd definitely left it too long!

Egypt is pulling itself apart, we are all going to get breast cancer, those of us that do have businesses are going under, the rest fear our jobs. Hospitals will soon be run by non speaky english cheap workers, and the police state will rise.. but to top it all off our wonderful football league will be muddied by foreign divers!
ah well it's a friday

Brilliant album. Toss up between this and Spotlight Kid as to which of his albums works best end-to-end. Truly a one-off.

Been airing a lot of Beefheart since he died, even tried Trout Mask Replica for the umpteenth time, and I still don't get it. But Safe as Milk is brilliant, what a way to start an album:-

I don't think Troutmask is ever going to be an album that I'd stick on and listen to from end to end. But it will always be essential to me for 'Ella Guru', and especially 'Moonlight On Vermont' and 'Pachuco Cadaver'. If that album consisted of those three tracks only, it would still be a masterpiece. The opening drum salvo on 'Moonlight' is electrifying. As is the point in 'Pachuco' where it all starts to gel from chaos into the tightest rhythm section ever (2.12minutes). John'Drumbo'French is a hero of mine, the antithesis of the drummer who just keeps the beat, without adding any colour to a song.
