I've spent Saturday night ripping my way through two massive boxes of CDs, something I've been meaning to do for years. Been at it since about 8pm and seven n half hours later I'm about 1/4 of the way through. Am amazed how much stuff this has thrown up that I'd completely forgotten about.
Weirdest thing is finding Ultrasound's Best Wishes single from 1998, and discovering that after splitting acrimoniously they played a gig for the first time in over ten years, in Kings X, on fucking Thursday.
lamqcqcqcq played their big single about going out and never growing old or whatever it was called tonight. haven't heard it in years. it was so weirdly familiar. great stuff. once auditioned their drummer to start a jon spencer inspired garage punk type band after these guys broke up. he was great but i never got my shit together and called him back.
i'm so fucking bored with all of my cds and records and everything in my itunes that i've just signed up to spotify premium and am greedily making offline playlists in anticipation of a few days wandering round suffolk with my headphones in. as my head is totally blank i have stolen inspiration from this thread. have started with a couple of trojan boxsets, some brian eno, the wild beasts and various other things i wouldn't normally listen to.
any other leftfield recomendations for this longtime US indie-pop, alt country obsessed whiteboy?
i need out of this rut.
