  • star trek rocks

Nowt wrong with star trek, but wearing trek uniforms probably isn't the best look for a metal group.

  • haha agreed!

  • Battle Of Wolf 359 - not technically metal, but heavy, good and Star Trek themed.

Also, the Phil Anselmo being cool has nothing to do with the song, it was just an observation. File it in the same drawer as when you walk into a pub near your parent's house, see someone from school and think "wow, I remember when they used to be hot".

  • great happy music to start the day...

  • This is a nice mix from the beeb archives: Radio 1's Classic Essential Mix: High Contrast

Anyone else who is into the above, might like the London Elektricity Essential Mix that was about at the end of 2008. Google it and you'll find it no problem. Was really good :)

  • Currently listening to Macel Dettmann's RA Podcast

Looking forward to listening to DJ Zhao's Capetown Techno/London House mix

  • Gustav, cheers for posting those. That DJ Zhao mix looks good from the tracklisting!

If you're liking Lisa Shaw's vocals then you've got to have a listen to this - it's one of the finest tunes ever to grace this earth...

  • @ Mooks, I love Lisa Shaw, thanks..lovely track!

  • one of the best tracks EVER... and the basis to the shapeshifters " Lolas Theme "

In which case, you might like Samantha James. Bit of a cheesy video, but the song's perfect.

EDIT: This version's been edited down quite a lot - check out the full length version when you can.

You'll probably find it on www.pearsontowers.com - there's not much that doesn't make it's way onto there, fantastic site.

One for rhb here as well - the Late Night Alumni stuff is produced by Ryan Raddon, whose recording name is Kaskade. I'm not ashamed to say I have his entire back catalogue. 'Seeing Julie', 'Tonight' and 'Charlie's Plight' on 'It's You, It's Me' are absolutely sublime, while there's some really good stuff on 'In the Moment' too.

As is the case with Kaskade unfortunately, some of it's a bit hit and miss - some fantastic deep house, some sublime vocal dance, and some odd repetitive techno stuff...

Hmmm - cheers, more listening out to do. :)

Re: the HedKandi stuff, I was well into ServeChilled #'s 1 & 2 the first time around - about 10 yrs ago now, never really got into their other series' as I was more of an indie kid back in the day before getting into more downtempo stuff.

Anyway, after seeing "A room for Romeo Brass" the other night, tonight I'm listening to:

    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=V4jQf-BeaMA

& the rest of Unfinished Monkey Business... quality.

  • @ Mooks , I never care about the Vids, dont watch them... but the song is indeed good, could be played around with quite well.. thanks I enjoyed that

I had a lot of time for Serve Chilled, but the rest of the Hed Kandi stuff just left me feeling let down. I think the very early years of Hed Kandi were just Mark Doyle having some fun with different types of music, but as is always the way, the commercial element took over.

Now though... Jesus - had a look at the track listing for their 'The Mix 2009' compilation and it's got shitty remixes of commercial pop - I mean, Estelle? Dizzee Rascal? That annoying Guru Josh track?

It's worse than Ministry of Sound...

Just dug out #1 (can't seem to find #2) and stuck it on... N.O.W. to open:

    Sweet :)

I've got Dancenation 1 & 2 from MOS, but there's no chance of me digging them out in a fit of nostalgia! P.s. I've played at the MOS place, but never been there proper - won a Red Letter Day dj experience - memories are of an awesome sound system, some big ego's present, and some shit music being played. My only regret was not taking my own tunes along (didn't think they'd like to hear tracks off Entroducing). Lesson learned - if I had my time again I'd take http://www.amazon.co.uk/Children-Original-All-Time-Childrens-Favourites/dp/B000026GLX along and insist on failing to mix The Ugly Duckling squared...

edit - Blimey... just re-spotted the z7 and k&d remixes on SC#1... top stuff.

Ahh... Nightmares on Wax. I knew what that was after one note...

Interestingly enough, my best friend used to mix children's stories into his DJ sets at various spots in Bournemouth. Pickwick was a favourite I believe. He also did a drum 'n' bass remix of Jingle Bells a few years ago by doing a bit of beatmatching. It went down a storm...

It's one of those 'name that tune' gimme tunes for sure...

Jingle Bells DnB Sounds cool :)

edit- just skipped through to this beauty:

(ignore the vid, just the tune)

  • Currently its all about Joanna Newsom (Y's is one of the most astounding albums ive heard in a while) and the fleet foxes record is pretty cool as well.

  • King Crimson FTW. Did anyone else see this on BBC4 the other night? I'd heard of them, but never heard their stuff before. The ret of their work might be futtocks for all I know, but it's been a long time since I've had such a strong fuck-me-that's-awesome reaction to a piece of music...

  • When listening to Joanna Newsom, don't think of Lisa Simpson - whatever you do...

Edit - currently listening to Big World Small World by Smith & Mighty.

  • Listening to Tame Impala. VERY good stuff. Think 60s Psychedelic rock played by what seems to be a trio of ozzie indie kids in flip flops.

  • Fabio Frizzi, The Beyond soundtrack...
