whenever anyone starts talking to me about house music i stop listening, that being said i find myself listening to the early chicago trax stuff and motor city drum ensemble when i'm cycling in london, something about the repetitive rhythms complements weaving in and out of traffic and there's nothing to pay attention to lyrically other than the occasional vocal sample so i'm never distracted from the road. interested to know how other people listen on the bike too, i have one earphone in wrapped around my ear on the pavement side

Cheers for the Alice Coltrane album tip! 11 albums heading my way (not all AC), I really shouldn't shop late at night.

There were a couple of Impulse records 2 on 1 CDs , but from reading she hasn't really done any duds, so should be good. And as a lot of her earlier albums involved Pharaoh Sanders, I ordered some of his work too. Keep looking at Miles Davis stuff, but find him a bit hit n miss, so have avoided doing anything about it for now.....

No I’ve not heard much by her I havnt enjoyed. I’m less keen on the more standard jazz she’s done than I am on the more spiritual side of things, but it’s pretty much all good. She got great players on her records, which helps - as you say: pharaoh Saunders.

Thembi is one of my favourite Pharoah Saunders lps.
I was listening to Radha-krsna nana sankirtana by Alice Coltrane the other day. Worth a listen - it’s got a bit of a different vibe to it. It a got an (African-) American spirituals vibe to it and in places almost bordering on an outsider new age feel, like Laraaji

Laraaji, new to me, just had a quick sample in YouTube, worth further investigation, ta. I'm sure I've seen him interviewed in a documentary, but can't recall what it was about, that'll be my age I guess.
