I'm trying to get him to update with the clamp size as it could be a deal-breaker.

I think they were 26mm, one I had was...

Unfortunately both sizes were made I believe; the change from 26.4 to 26.0 was in the mid-nineties.

I found that you could only shim with a 1a by fitting a stronger bolt which wouldn't be possible with that design.

one doesnt drill those, they put them in a display cabinet.
