(never tried to lift one before [how do car fanatics compare car weights?{like when you meet another bike person and lift their bike up and nod approvingly /or shake disapprovingly/ - i've run out of brackets -}])

Lotus Elise are around 800kg, my Volvo estate is around 1,500.

Cars are getting heavier and heavier though, with all the insulation and equipment in them, plus they are getting bigger and bigger as well.

Next major area for development will be composite materials in volume cars- if the car weighs have as much it needs half the power, and uses half the fuel.

In theory, at least.

Someone seems to have come across a job-lot of Specialized forks, also some carbon seatposts... Not silly cheap, but might be handy if someone on here has crashed...
