[SIZE=2]Me: Hello. I'd just like to inform you that the bike for sale has clearly had a serious head on crash. The forks should not be that shape! The bike is unsafe and should not be ridden.
Regards

HiThanks for pointing the bent forks out. Fortunately for me, I'd only put the bike on 12 hours beforehand. I've taken it straight off Ebay.
Annoyingly, that will have come since I've had it. When I got it, it was as if it had hardly ever been ridden and in perfect nick! I did grab the bike midway through re-cabling it to run a quick errand. I didn't realise the brakes weren't finished until I tried to brake and went head-on into a barrier gate at the bottom of the alley where I work. I checked the wheel was still running true, for scratches on the paintwork and the bike still rode with no issues. Obviously I missed the(what now seems glaringly obvious!) forks.
I've taken the bike off immediately from Ebay to have a good look and sort it out before looking to put it back on.
I have been running my workshop here for nearly three years now and have never any comeback from any of the (+/-) hundred bikes I have sold. Even on Ebay, most of my customers are local and I offer a free check-up and money back guarantee if there are any major issues with anything I've sold. Selling 2nd hand bikes is a business laden with potential pitfalls that up until now have managed to avoid. I think have managed to build up a decent reputation in the process.
Thank you for taking the time to point out the issue. It is much appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Well it's good that his taken it off of eBay....

i'm calling bullshit on that, i doubt the wheel would have survived a crash like that

^^well done, Tel.
^ Bullshit indeed!
just ran bike head on into a barrier......
Paintwork, check!
Wheels true, check!
urmmm....trys to remember 3yrs of workshop experience.....yep, done!I wonder if he does services?
Surely the handling might have been a little different with the forks smashed in and the handlebars bent down. Mind you, not realising the cabling hadn't been finished to start with doesn't hold out much hope for this guy, or any of his toothless customers.
3 yrs running a workshop with no complaints, never had anyone return a bike, or had any after sale problems...hmmmmm, wonder why. -

As tester likes to point out. Wheels are a lot stronger than frames, especially traditional wheels with lots of spokes vs bendy 70's fork. Ive seen plenty of bikes get that bent with intact wheels. Even MTB's and BMX's.

BMX's.
As you say I remember when i was younger accidently hitting a lampost at a decent speed on my Fit Bike BMX,
forks bent back but the wheel was fine! -

A friend of mine was looking for a replacement for his girlfriend's stolen bike in the above bike shop. Instead, he found the stolen bike.
To be fair, most bicycle recycling places get their bikes from Police, often for free. Its the polices fault for not putting more effort into reuniting recovered items with owners.
