can anyone explain these tommasini frames to me? don't think it's the first i've seen.. what's going on here? looks like it's been modified and resprayed and however sumptuously it's been done not a genuine pista frame... road bridge, plainly filled front fork, road bb? just wondered if someone knew what was was going on here, has tomassini rehashed old stock they've got tucked away for some bizarre reason or is this a forgotten category of frame? or is it just a bewilderingly opulent rip off? it's a million miles from the current Coppi single speeds..
sorry if i missed an earlier discussion on it.. but well worth re-discussing..

^ I don't know...
... some of the bits you've pointed out (bridge / BB) are obviously custom to Tommasini, so it's understandable that they may not go to the cost of making new varriations on quality bits.
The real question is the BB height/angles.
I don't think the fork is filled, I think its a pilot hole in case you want the front drilled.

yeah i was thinking along those lines for the the bb/bridge hugo, but somehow it just doesn't add up to a name as prestigious as Tommasini.. still seems to be a bit corner-cutting. The fork having a pilot hole also seems a bit of a concession though far less unusual i guess....
this has come out of me and a friend looking at it and me originally arguing it was probably the stuff you've guessed at, but the more they said how half-assed a road bridge (undrilled as it seems to be) is on a pista frame the more i sort of agreed... as far as the geometery goes we then got over-suspicious at the frame angle in the photo as it doesn't give a good enough view to judge it..!!
over-geeking on the day after New Year's day... this is what happens when you're feeling lazy.... ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if its legit.
Having been told by Colnago that the new Master Track X-light frames they are making (retail £1500!!) will be drilled at the back, because that what they have, and undrilled ones would have to be specially made I'm not remotely surprised that big names cut corners on modern steel frames - after-all the majority of their business will be carbon / alu. So steel is always going to a bit of a compromise with the big names. -

There is summit a bit suspect about this.
No mention of manufacturer/builder, nationality, BB etc.... No mention of whether its painted or not, or what its painted with. Seat-tube problem is covered up with additional seat collar so you can't really see whats going on. Hardly encouraging.
Good project if the price stays low
