That is a very practical aero bar arrangement, must be able to hit 100mph if you can wedge your elbows in there!

@skinnygav - Merckx, as well as producing beautiful top level racing machines, also at some point slapped his name on some budget steel, sold in supermarkets and the like. I'm sure this has cost some eager beavers dear and made a few tinkers a bit richer over the years. I am not the expert on this, hence why I stated it as my belief rather than fact, but looking at the pics yields clues - slack geometry, naff components, etc. Caveat emptor.
does anyone know how to spot these falcon-made models? i personally have no idea, and so as a rule, i just avoid all merckx frames with the logo in a yellow band, but i'm sure i'm also ruling out some really nice frames as a result of this.

"anyone knows the name given to the fixing that goes from the crank arm to the chain ring in this picture?
nice finding by the way. sadly missed."
these were made by French firm TA and were often referred to as chainring adaptors they fitted 5 bolt cranks such as TA & Stronglight and were quite popular through the 50's and 60's -

Pretty sure they don't have frame numbers on the Falcon models due to mass production.

It's pretty clear if you look at dropouts, lugs, braze-ons, seat stay caps, componentry, geometry, clearances, etc...
