when Claud Butler went bankrupt in the late 50's Holdsworth bought the name and used it on a range of cheaper models that were sold (.....trading on the pedigree of this well established marque!) the Claud Butler & Holdsworth name were acquired by Falcon Cycles in the late 80's,
original Claud's prior to 1957 are the ones that are real deal!

Bought these "tiagra 4500" calipers for the lady's bike last week. Turned up today as 105 5600s :). Maybe worth a punt for a few other people looking to save £60

Not fixed, but NOS 1975 Mercier. Yes.
Man, even with the Dura Ace groupset and access to the time machine the seller pulled this bike out of, I have no idea why the bidding is getting as high as it is (currently £600). Can anyone else clue me in? I mean, it's a great looking bike, but my understanding was that Mercier made good frames for their day, but by no means were they amazing. I actually recall seeing an amazing Jack Taylor tourer going for less than what this Mercier is already at!
Here we go. Two Merciers (one looking almost identitcal) for the price of 3% of the one in question. Granted, it appears they wont ship, but even with that, you could get a flight down to Marseille, take a holiday, and bring the bikes back all for less that other Mercier is looking to fetch.

unless the pair of bikes were offered as a buy it now and collectable before the end of the NOS mercier i would carry on bidding. call me cynical. sorry if i am missing something.

Thats true
These Majestics were equivalent to a Dawes Galaxy and Tourists either rode them or went up to hand built/ own brand models. The next model down would have been a Falcon Black Diamond. I am talking about 1980 -84 here. These and one or two later models are the last of the "good " claude butlers. I think the Dalesman is a not bad tourer.
The standard rig for a Majectic would be with a Karrimor frame and Green Karrimor bags . I took one to Brittany on camping tour.
Holdsworth bikes were the next model up in the then Holdsworth range. Holdsworth disapeaered in the mid 80s and became part of the Falcon empire .
The Majestics were not bad touring 531 frames, but with no brazes ons at all . Brazes on fitting were what you paid frame builders to do .
Thats why when Mountain Bikes appeared in 84, with cantlivers, better equipment, and lots of braze on fittings for a hundred quid more , then traditional touring bikes took a nose dive. It also spelt the dealth knell for centre pulls

I saw an identical one for £60 in Provence last summer. A daughter was selling her fathers bike. "he always looked after it" , she said.
I was too scared of french threads , and also what the GLW would say, to buy it
