Had variations of these on most of my BMX's back in the day (yes, am old enough to remember the day).

Made your shins look like a porcupine had sat on them :(

not many, mine are dimpled all the way to my feet.

I found mtbing with DMR V8s was good for that too. Those pins were replaceable for when you left some embedded in your shin. :)
