Hi Guys!
Just wanted to introduce myself new to the forum. I will be converting an older peugeot to fixed. I lived in LA 5 years riding and my bike got stolen literally the night before I moved to Paris. I am now in Paris and either it's my lack of French, or I am simply not looking in the right places, but I can not for the life of me find cheap, used parts. I figured I would mingle with you guys here looking for help. Luckily, a friend's grandfather here hooked me up with the bike free. I need some parts, but will put that in the wanted section.
Cheers!
Thats shit it got stolen the night before!
Hope the forum will help you out, and welcome x -

Hope the forum will help you out, and welcome xThanks! Tell me about it - 5 years, several bikes and never ONE problem. I leave my flat for 3 hours and return home at 5am and the thing was gone. At first I thought my buddies threw it on the roof again since we were smash-faced for my going away party. I checked craigslist for a few months, but I assume it was a bum or crackie looking for some cash. Lamesauce.

Lamesauce indeed
This forum, if you look past their silliness, they will help you out in what you need! I joined about almost a month ago looking for a bike, and a month later i still get PM's about bikes being on sale for my height and size.Good luck in your build, perhaps move from paris to London too ;) (I dont like paris, have family there)

Trust me, I already feel the same... I picked Paris over London because after running numbers, I just could not afford it as much as I would rather be in London... but - it's never too late. Seems easy than France, too as far as immigration. My visa situation here is such a pain in the ass.
Any recommendations on living in London cheap... I am open to the idea. I freelance so nothing really is keeping me any specifically.
Thanks!

London is admittedly expensive but sometimes you can find a cheap room, studio flat, one bed room flat if you look outside the capital itself?
www.gumtree.com is good? -

Thank you. Where is best to look for a bike bearing in mind I'm a complete beginner but have friend who could tell me what's good/rubbish?

Hey folks, first post!
Well, I was going to ask some questions in a new thread but seeing as I can't do that for 24 hours I'll ask here instead...
Started pedaling a couple of weeks ago, took me 6 months to work up the courage but loving it so far... but...
1) Just found a Y shaped crack, above the fork crown, of a second-hand aluminum bike I got last month. Assuming this is bad shizzle... should I stop riding it? It's maybe 1cm in each direction. The bike must be a good few years old.
2) Taking into account the above, maybe I need another bike, a single speed this time I think, already bored of changing between just 2 of my 21 gears :) This page keeps coming up on Gumtree: http://singlespeed.angelfire.com/ ... any good?

Woah, thanks, interesting reading.
Guess I could save some pennies and get something new around the £500 mark. Not knowing much about bikes... Specialized Langster appeals to my minimal side? A Bowery? Fuji Track?
But maybe something older would be better, less likely to get stolen, don't have anyway safe to leave it at work...

Hi,
Charlie again, but with new ID as I lost the last one (probably under the fridge with all those loose bearings). Blatently clocking up my 3 new postings to get full access back.
Cheers

howdy folks, ftony here, another n00b to the forums. i'm too much of a scaredy-cat to ride a fixie but i've been on my ol' single speed racer for about 6 months now (having upgraded from a clapped out mountain bike i got for my 16th birthday, 8 years ago) and it's a sweet little ride. slowly but surely replacing the crappier bits. next job... pedals that aren't wonky :D

Hello 3stripe, go and search for GA2G's list of lists - the OTP thread, if you don't want to start from stripping down an ebay frame, the thread'll provide you with more info to make up your mind. Oh and look up the Locks that Work thread too whilst you're at it.

Going to change a few things (get rid of that camo tape for a start) and perhaps convert it to a single speed? Though not sure yet if I should get another bike [still dreaming of Peugeots] to convert....

INCOMING NEWBIE >>>
Hi. Riding a lot of mud out in the Chilterns for years now, but in the last three years have grown to love riding around London. Started off on knobbies, then put some Big Apples on my full susser but that was mad, then got a hardtail for the winter and put the Big Apples on that and loved it so much I couldn't' bear to get it dirty.
http://www.netgoose.co.uk/BigApple.jpgBut gears are no good. Really. Not in Town, unless you're pedalling up into Holland Park on the cycle path from Holland Park Road.
So I want a SS. That's why I'm here. I'm hoping Mania has his blue Plug still, that looks perfect for me (sorry if I've offended any purists, as I know it has flats an brakes!)
Anyway, good to be here... -

OMG! I'm so sorry. I had no idea that pic was so big!
How can I get rid of it> Sheesh, what an idiot? -

From the United States, in London for a few days. I've seen so many fixed-gear bikes here that it has surpassed how many I've seen in San Francisco, so I decided to look on here and see what's going on.

Just found the forum and wanted to say hi. I've been converted to single speed by my pub bike that I built out of an old Orange Clockwork frame and lots of bits. Now my old 531 frame that's been in the shed for 15 years is going to get the fixed treatment. If you see anyone falling off on the speed bumps in Peckham it'll probably be me.
I just joined and I used the search function to prove I'm not a moron. I am on a mission to create a fixed gear/single speed from an old Orange Clockwork frame, just like Scanners did.
Except at this stage I have neither the frame nor any parts. -

So I can do Quick Replies, posted three times (+), and I've waited 24hours and the forum elders won't let me in.
DO I have to slide someone a monkey or what?
I'd like to post an advice question before I go and do something silly with my money and buy a bike you'll all snigger at...

have you searched for your question / answer first?
perhaps you just need some patience, I don't think getting out of nursery is automatic - perhaps the "Elder" you speak of is em, u know, working... and can't get to it right now?Really, i mean it, use search. Chances are you'll find what you're looking for and save yourself being slated for pissing off people starting a new thread.
