Welcome, Basil, with a name like that you'll fit right in on the next tweed run.

Hi all, this is my first post but I've been lurking about on here for a couple of weeks. Thought I'd introduce myself.... I've been riding BMX's for the past 11 years and rode MTB's before that.
Over the last few years I've not ridden my BMX as often as I should have and have come to realize that I need to do something for exercise before I go mad. Because of my BMX background, I love how clean and simple fixed bikes are so It seems an obvious progression to give it a go myself.
For anyone that cares, this is my BMX...

Don't spend a load of £ on your first bike. You'll only realise that lots of stuff annoys you about it and you can't afford to rectify any of it :O) )

Sorry...that was for Basil. But cheers J. I feel like a fraudster, posting when my bike's in the shop. I'd love to just say I'll come of for the next beers, but alas I must wait for Kona to stop farting about. The guy at Evans says they SHOULD be sending my frame out tomorrow...so prob won't see it till next week. Am reduced to driving to work....albeit carefully, checking wing mirrors at least 3 times before turning and staying out of cycle lanes :O) )

Haha! The tweed run sounds and looks excellent! I'll be there, pending bike purchase.
And thanks for the peddling advice!

Hello,
As I'm sure is the case with lots of other people I've been lurking for a while and now have signed up to this site.
I've been riding mtb's for yonks and recently got a road bike. A couple of years ago built up a ss mtb for winter riding. Then sold it. I got back into riding and stayed with gears, however due to a change of circumstance I now can't ride off road as much as I used to and am a bit bored of the same trails.
So hence why I got the road bike, only thing is gears are starting to annoy me, so I started lurking and have always toyed with the idea of a ss road bike. So now I've decided to go fixed.
I've got a couple of ideas as to how to build up the bike so I'm sure I'll post in various sub sections for help or ideas.
Finally I'm in Kent so may well (once my bike is finished) pop up for some of the pub meets!
Cheers

What's on, Holmes? Welcome.

hey y'all.
i might buy this bike today. is it worth the money?

first fixed on gumtree that (probably) isn't stolen! unless you count the fact that the previous owner may come back for it at some point in the future.
it's a bit over priced but a nice bike. if you were to build it up yourself then you'd end up paying around £500-600. complete bikes usually go for less than the build cost :-(

Been lurking for a week or so and thought I'd say hi.
I'll be buying my first road bike in a week or so as soon as my employers cycle to work scheme opens. I wanted to ask whether anyone knew of any decent bike shops that participate in the Cycle2Work scheme (through Halfords arrrgggh!)???
I've been in contact with Cotic and 18bikes (looking for a roadrat) and neither of them are working with Halfords this year (Ithink they want too much of a discount for it to be worth the trouble). Can anyone help suggest any decent stores?
In other news, I like that so many on here hate hipsters....on a fixed gear/single speed forum!
Anyways, pleased to meet y'all

When my company joined the Cycle2work scheme I thought ' Great, now I can get myself a decent bike', trouble was they did it with Halfrauds too. But on further investigation with Halfrauds C2WS dept I found out that they can source virtually any bike you want, they just don't make this info public. Give their office a call and see what they can come up with. Oh and Welcome too.

Wee!
Thanks P!mp!
I'll be lucky if I can get them to source me a Cotic roadrat methinks, but who knows...
I'm just not too keen on choosing a bike again! I've been obsessively reading cycle sites etc for about two weeks now!

Bike Slut?
I've just tried looking for them and most of the results are of the NSFW variety.
Are they a local store?

I don't know...are you planning on riding lots of canal towpaths?
otherwise you'd be better off with a road bike rather than a hybrid. -

Ok my bad!
Not much at the moment, bike is in bits waiting to be built up!
Hello Basil.
Buy a bike that fits (hopefully one that you find aesthetically pleasing) and don't forget to keep peddling.
