Understated and silver is exactly what I'm after. It's just a pity that I do have a wide rubber allergy. Ta for the suggestion, but I think I need a different flavour of Mavic. :-)

I'm not sure 2 leading 2 trailing would work. On my 3x 3 build I could not get the wheels to hold tension without at least one crossing per group of spokes. Without that, the first time you hit a serious pothole the wheel would probably pretzl on you!
2leading 2 trailing would probably be tricky to get a nice cross without looking odd. -

xroads Any comments on the CXP-22's, as Im thinking of building a cheap starter pair using these.
I have black 22s on my Pug... It is a beater, but I think they look great - almost too good for the rest of the machine.
Have only had them a month, so can't really comment on durability/reliability. I don't know if they are bomb proof, but they are definitely pothole/curb proof.

I'll go and take a look at cyclesurgery this weekend, they seem the cheapest for both CXP and DT, will probably go for silver CXP 'cause orange and black 'll be a bit too Halloweeny.

i kicked the shit out of my 22s they seem to be true ater 6 months so....Harry Rowland reckons they're a strong set of rims so take his word on, he knows his shit.

I was going to post exactly that! (For some reason I was thinking about your hubs this morning)

Tasty hubs!
I have a set of Campy Omega V shaped Alloy 6082 T6's with Campy 'Sheriff Star' C Record hubs(freshly purchased from Jos) need to build them up now.
Also have a set up of Pauls Components black hubs with black CXP 33 - bombproof!! -

DT Swiss RR1.2 Aero Section Road Rims
They are rather jolly. Take off the stickers and you got yourself some nice deep-ish rims that dont say 'steal me'

They're fine, and great value too. I had them laced up to some DMR singlespeed hubs (they're trials hubs, I think), and they felt really tough. Open pros are simply lighter, and look nicer. Probably a little stronger, maybe. I'd be guessing.
Just make sure the eyelets are oiled (any light oil will do) when you lace them up, otherwise they kind of gnaw into the rim.

i had cxp 22's on my work bike the front lasted for over a year with a brake, quite light and never needed to be retrued much either.
i use d t swiss 1.2 now heavier on the downside but stronger and look nicer i reckon -

http://www.totalcycling.com/index.php/manufacturer/dt_swiss/RR_DT_12.htmlI compared a RR1.2 and a Deep V to each other today, they both seemed to weigh the same, both had the same rim profile, same depth, same width, in fact they were pretty much identical except for the DT Swiss stickers.

Deep V (520g) and RR1.2 (585g ). The RR1.2 are .3mm deeper and .5mm wider ... I can't believe you couldn't tell that from just looking at them :)
I think the only other real diff is that the Deep Vs join is pinned and sleeved where the RR1.2 are welded? I don't think it really makes much difference these days but some folks care.

http://www.dtswiss.com/Products/Components/Rims/RR-rims/RR-1-2-black.aspxTo the OP: my fav rim right now is the CXP-33 just because of where they fall on the strength/lightness chart. Really like 'em a lot for all purpose wheels.

Might be out of date etc.. but could be useful?
http://weightweenies.starbike.com/listings/components.php?type=rims
RR1.1 32h 419g (claimed 415g)
DeepV 32h 539g (520g claimed for 28h)I find my 36h CXP33s to be sluggish compared to the 32h um those Mavics fsck.. you know the ones.. Open Pro.. yeah them. Could be the tyres. Could be the 36 vs. 32h?

Bought a 32 hole RR 1.1 today - 426g on the scales - pretty close to claimed weight.

Does anyone have the silver deep-v's? the weld looks cheesy in the online pics, how do they look in person? Can I polish them out?
-
• #121
forgive me for sounding stupid but are velocity deep v's only sold in pairs
or can you buy em seperately -
• #122
You can buy three if you got a dope tricycle.
-
• #123
i see...thanks!

I ride open pros. Have you thought about DT Swiss RR1.1? There's also a deeper profile version called a 1.2 I think.

I've used Ambrosio Excellence rims on various bikes for the past ten years or so. They are good solid rims that seem to last for ages. I've a pair on Goldtec hubs from Outspoken Cycles on my De Rosa.
I've not used the FCS28s though.
Any comments on the CXP-22's, as Im thinking of building a cheap starter pair using these.
